VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI - News just into our news room is that Virgin Gordian Faye J. Reese-Charles will be the People’s Empowerment Party’s (PEP) candidate to contest the seat in the Ninth District.

The seat is being vacated by long time Legislator and Leader of the Opposition Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9).

According to this news site’s many senior sources within all political parties in the Virgin Islands (VI) Ms. Reese-Charles was settled on after a series of meetings with the PEP Executive. She is expected to make a formal announcement in May of this year.

The PEP which is the VI’s newest political party was launched on March 29, 2014 and has as its Chairman Honourable J. Alvin Christopher (R2) a former Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Minister and member and its President is Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru a former member of the People’s Patriotic Alliance (PPA).

To date the PEP has not announced any of its candidates but promised to have a full slate to compete in the next general elections due by February 2016.

Repeated attempts by this news site to reach both Hon Christopher and Wheatley for a comment proved futile up to post time.

Faye J. Reese-Charles

Mrs. Reese-Charles spent over 30 years as a public officer rising to the ranks of Assistant Secretary in the Premier’s Office. Her most recent appointment was that of Assistant Cabinet Secretary, in the Cabinet Office, a new post that started in 2007. She is currently a lecturer at the H. L Stoutt Community College, the Virgin Gorda campus.

The Virgin Gordian holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors in Law and Political Science from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Ms. Reese could not be reached for comment up to post time.

List for the 9th District seat growing

It was this news site that broke all the political candidate stories last year. In exclusive interviews many candidates have trusted VINO to announce their intentions to seek political office. Last year long time political hopeful Dr. Hubert O’Neal who ran four times for the Ninth District seat (1999, 2003, 2007, 2011) and lost all four times told our news room that he is running again after announcing in 2011 that he was throwing in the towel.

Our news room has since confirmed that Dr. O’Neal an ophthalmologist will be on the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) ticket according to a senior party official.

Earlier this year 2015 Dr. Rawle R. Hannibal told our news room that he will be an independent candidate for the Ninth District seat in the next general elections.

In addition, last year former Government Press Secretary and Radio personality Devon U. Osborne announced his intention to seek the Opposition VIP nomination through its Congress to run in the Ninth District bringing the list to four potential candidates for the open seat.

The Ninth District covers the Sister Islands of Virgin Gorda and Anegeda.

Other candidates for 2015/16 elections

It was this news site that also broke the story that PPA Shaina M. Smith will be seeking political office again as an At-Large candidate under the PPA banner. This news site also broke the story that Youth Leader and Businessman Rajah A. Smith was also seeking the VIP nomination through its Congress to run At-Large.

VINO will be your exclusive election centre for all political coverage in the battle to replace the NDP.

Well if its Hubert, Hanibal and Faye ... Faye would get my vote anyhow. She knows the public service and is more personable than these two. Plus she lives on island and understands the needs/plight of a Virgin Gordian. Here's to you Ms.Reese-Charles.

the more they become BAD Voters, i.e., militaristic, plutocratic, hypocritical theocratic fascists, the more they start judging who’s a good person to run or not.

How do you know who you will vote for if you do not know her platform? Stop voting on what you you hear. Study the persons personality, the way they interact with the public and what they claim they will bring to the table. Be informed voters. Wait, think, evaluate then vote.

I do not took think the BVI community understands the conveyor of voting. You cannot vote for someone Because they name family or friend. Know their platform, what they are about. Be certain that their views fall in line with what you see happening for the territory.

Don't settle for mediocre and not vote. It is our right to put in our two cents in terms of our future. Let your voice be heard and act to better or community

One man in VG always say"sense". NOw you really need to have sense because people keep on saying she does note speak to people but truth is, she doesn't even need to talk to you to find out what you need because she herself is living the same life that you are experiencing every day, so....... pick sense out of your NONSENSE! Faye we are with you all the way! The others need to ask questions, but you already have the answers!
