FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI – Residents of Brady Ghut in Fat Hogs Bay were involved in a narrow escape from death earlier today, August 30, 2013 after their vehicle fell over a precipice and into a neighbour’s yard below.

The broken roadway from which the vehicle fell was highlighted by Virgin Islands News Online just a few short weeks ago after a resident reported that it had collapsed nearly four years ago and repeated promises by several in authority to have it repaired were yet to be realised.

While there were no reports of any serious injuries, one resident is said to have suffered minor injuries to the head following the accident that involved four persons.

It remains unclear whether the resident eventually sought medical treatment for his injuries.

The incident reportedly occurred sometime after 5 A.M. while the injured resident was on his way home in the company of three other persons.

Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) were on the scene conducting investigations following the accident.

Why don't you ask where was the VIP as it stated, this has been like this for 4 years and promises were made. So it's been like this both under the VIP & NDP.

They were busy blocking funds from the District Rep. to make him look bad to the voters in his district. Thank God some of us see how dirty politics really could be. Fraser have a right to accuse the Government of this. It's what he did for years to try and secure a seat in area the party could not otherwise get one and it still ain't work. Just look at sewage in this same district and see what was really going on.

Man didn't this is the same place where Allen Smith was talking about a few weeks back.. this is the same two houses in that bad road.. Like I said.. government in other place would make home owners fix road before they finish building any structure at any corner or hill.

I think that Allen Smith's house was there before this happened and the road was undermined by rain water. It would be the house below that dug into the hill but that house looks way down so I don't know, so it may be years of soil erosion.
In any case a homeowner usually digs into the hill and builds a house, therefore they are responsible for undermining whoever is building above or behind them (on a hill). I may be wrong, just my take.

I doesn't matter We all know that the earth is always shifting so they should have backed walled it before this happened.

Just gross negligence! Why do we have to wait for someone to unnecessarily lose their life or be seriously injured for us to address issues. It should be a standard operational practice to take action(s) to prevent accidents and incidents; to design, maintain and repair infrastructure to avoid hazards, and to mitigate hazardous conditions expeditiously. This should be the responsibility of PWD of 24/7 and 365; the MCW, PWD ..etc should be held accountable for any and all preventable accidents and incidents. Further, strict and safe construction standards need to be put in place and strictly enforced.

What the Hell is there to dislike about what NPolitico said here? Both NDP and VIP are guilty of gross neglect when it comes to prioritizing what is most important. I drive throughout the territory, and observe several dangerous roads which can impact the safety of the travelling public. Heavy Equipment that should be transported on flatbed trucks are allowed to drive freely, and cause damage to the roads.. NPolitico I agree with you. It appears that when it comes to down to what is wrong and what is Righteous, the Apathetics choose the former. That is sad that people in this civilized world still have their brains in Reverse. Thank God no one was seriously hurt or worse yet killed.

This was a quadrant 1 issue, i.e, it was urgent and important. It was critical, urgent and non-deferrable. Somethings can backlogged but this was not one of them. This was an accident waiting to happen. We had the means, method and opportunity to prevent this incident but we failed miserably. Thank God no one lost his or her life or was seriously injured.. In the BVI we are too lackadaisical about getting the right things done right in a timely manner. Everything is always manana, manana, tomorrow, tomorrow. We take too many risks with people's life. Public health and safety must be a top priority; we cannot pay play Russian roulette with people's lives.

Thank god no one was hurt for this is serious. People have to bear some responsibility for some of these issues. We buy a small piece and then try to build a mansion and undermine the roads. As a tax payer I see Government building retaining walls all the time and I am tired of footing the bill for people's mess. Building codes need to be more strict with stiffer penalties for not following them.
