EAST END, Tortola, VI – While it is expected that someday, some time death will come, it is always very hard for loved ones to say farewell and move on, especially when a person dies in the prime of their youth.

This was the case for the parents of the late Shaheem H. A. Richards Mr and Mrs Henrique and Scharmla Springette Richards.

Today was the day when they were joined by hundreds who converged at the Upper Room Victory Church in East End to pay final respects.

The halls of the church were mostly filled with youths of Shaheem’s age, his community, school and other groupings. Several members and other supporters of the BVI Cancer Society including its Chairperson Ms Gloria A. Fahie and family were present. First and Eighth District Representatives Honourable Andrew A. Fahie and Hon Marlon A. Penn respectively were also present at the ceremony.

Shaheem’s story was told in the eulogy as his parents recounted his last years, “On September 17, 2012, at the age of fourteen Shaheem became ill and was diagnosed with leukemia. The hardest fight he ever fought began and he came out victorious on April 22, 2013. What great news to be told that Shaheem was in remission. He was excited and wanted to be a normal kid again. He jumped right back into his studies and did not miss a beat.”

“No one would have known that he missed eight months of school because he maintained a high grade point average. In the midst of being a normal kid on March 14, 2014, the dangerous disease came back. He was a fighter who fought a great fight because he wanted to be here today with his family and friends. Sadly he succumbed to the disease on June 7, 2014,” said the Eulogy.

It went on to say that he has left an everlasting mark. “We are confident that so he lived peacefully on Earth, he will live peacefully with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in Heaven.”

Shaheem H. A. Richards’ final resting place is the Greenland Cemetery.

    Rest in peace my son. To the parents and extended family, rejoice for the fifteen short years he spend on this earth but be assured, God have better plans for him. On another note, I only see Hon. Penn and Hon. Fahie in the photos, where are the rest of the politicians, is it that they feel that this family do not have enough votes to give them.

          I did see them there. One thing I must say is that although I am not a fan of Fahie I must admitt that he supports so many things & functiins whether in or out of his First district which is unusal for a district candidate so it has to be that that is who he is a genuine person despite it all.

    My heart goes out to the family. I did not know Shaheim but I know what it is like to loose a loved one to that dreadful disease. The only that got me through it was knowing that my loved one was no longer in pain. My prayers continue to be with you. Be faithful and of good courage.
