ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As residents gear up for Emancipation Festival 2016, many anticipate a high level of performance from especially contestants of the various pageants being organised for this year’s celebration.

This was voiced by several persons among the large crowd that filled the auditorium of Maria's by the Sea last night June 17, 2016.

"They better come good this year," said Kent Malone a patron at last night’s "Reveal" of contestants for Miss BVI, Miss JR BVI, Mr JR BVI and the July 24, 2016 Prince and Princess pageants.

As the contestants took to the microphone in their first public appearance, there were the usual blunders of some being overwhelmed by the presence of the crowd as they forgot their lines. However, they received their expected high level of support as the crowd was very forgiving and cheered them on.

As first and accurately reported by this news site on June 16, 2016, four will vie for the crown as Miss BVI 2016-2017, a position that would see the victorious contestant becoming an ambassador for the territory at home and on international stages.

This news site had first and accurately reported on the names of the contestants of the Miss Jr BVI and Mr Jr BVI some five hours before they were officially revealed.

Festival Pageant Committee Chairperson, Ms Janette N. Brin assured patrons of a quality performance but also admonished residents to give the contestants their fullest support as, according to her, it takes the general community to help them be the best they can be.

While the committee didn't reveal all or most of the prizes that are up for grabs this year, especially for the most senior pageant, National Bank of the Virgin Islands presented the committee with a cheque of $7,500, which was announced as one of the prizes for the winner of the Miss BVI Pageant.

Contestants, please use your own hair. Sometimes the fake hair diminishes your natural beauty.

Ms. Jr. Ms BVI should be for persons that are too young for Ms BVI show, not for persons who are of age to compete in the MS BVI show.
