According to Premier Andrew A. Fahie, Hon Mark H. Vanterpool had oversight of ‘unforgettable and unforgivable corruption’ that occurred under the nose of the National Democratic Party (NDP) which includes the $7.2M BVI Airways deal, the re-purposing of $8M from the EE/LL sewage project and the 40M overrun at the TPP project under his watch. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – On the heels of a vicious attack from the a newly sworn-in Fourth District Representative, Hon Mark H. Vanterpool against the Leader of the Virgin Islands (VI) and others in the public and private sector, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) says the public can expect more attacks as probes into corruption under the former administration continues.

The Premier made the utterances in delivered scolding criticisms to Mr Vanterpool, over his 'slanderous' outburst soon after being sworn into to the House of Assembly (HoA) at the Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

According to Hon Fahie, Mr Vanterpool had oversight of ‘unforgettable and unforgivable corruption’ that occurred under the nose of the National Democratic Party (NDP) which includes the $7.2M BVI Airways deal, the repurposing of $8M from the EE/LL sewage project and the 40M overrun at the TPP project under his direct watch.

More attacks coming - Premier Fahie

“It is unfortunate but the public can expect more intense attacks of these kinds from Members of the Opposition in response to the Government’s penetrating investigations into corruption, mismanagement and wastage by the former administration, which also has many unanswered questions,” Premier Fahie said is his July 18, 2019, media statement.

The Premier continued, “You can expect them to get even worse as we make strides in improving the quality of life of our citizens and raising the prospects for the future by breaking the cycle of social inequity that has been the status quo.”

He said Hon Vanterpool’s attempt to discredit the Premier and the sitting government indicated the level of desperation and anxiety opposition members share as they miss the spoils of government for their ‘personal enjoyment and aggrandisement’.

He noted that in just four months, the performance and achievements of his Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration, has put in the shade, the performance of the 8-year NDP administration which was long accused of lacking transparency and accountability in their rule.

Witch Hunt

Premier Fahie disclosed that the mandate for change given to this government is one that he takes seriously. He said that with challenges, the government is still committed to remaining focused at raising the standard of living and quality of life for the people of the Virgin Islands.

Addressing previous attempts to witch hunt him, the Leader of Government Business implored, “The public has been long and well aware of the claims made by Mr Vanterpool on Tuesday. They will recall that 17 years ago the NDP dedicated millions of dollars to investigating and hounding me, in the worst political witch hunt in the history of the BVI,” while pointing that the investigations came up empty-handed.

Hon Fahie further noted that with Hon Vanterpool’s outburst, it “shows clearly the malice that he and others still have in their hearts and minds towards me. They are entitled to their own opinions but to their own facts, whom God blesses no man can curse.”

I am pleased that the Hon. Premier did not react to the level of Hon. Vanterpool vulgarity and explain the facts. When the electorates looks at the two Representatives they will decipher the difference. I would like the Premier to focus on the development of the country and avoid the distractions.

When the dust is settle we will see that it is a distraction tactic that is used to take away the focus from Hon. Vanterpool and blame someone else. We should pray for the Premier to lead this country into a prosperous future. Perhaps there is need for a mental evaluation of Hon. Vanterpool to ensure that he is not psychopathic.

I have never been political in 62 years but the only member of the current opposition that can freely speak on government spendings in the current house is Hon Fraser: maduro: turnbull: vanterpool & Penn sat for 8 years and knowingly condone some serious violations: Lord have mercy millions and millions gone accounted while maduro: vanterpool: penn and turnbull acted as government administrators: sad thing, not one of them will be held accountable by the law enforcement(police, dpp or attorney general)..the auditor general raised some troubling issues and those matters apparently Were swept under the rug....
