EXCLUSIVE: Acquitted murder accused Marcus Lloyd fears for his life
He spoke out in an exclusive interview with this news site on Saturday May 7, 2016 following his May 4, 2016 acquittal on charges of murder and manslaughter.
Lloyd had been jointly charged with Wakeem Guishard and Mitch Christopher for the murder of Daren Allen ‘Tiger’ Hodge. Star witness in the case Terrence Abdullah Charles had pleaded guilty in 2011 for the murder and received a reduced sentence of 20 years in exchange for his testimony against the other three accused in the case.
Guishard and Christopher were also acquitted of murder on May 4, 2016.
Speaking to this news site, Lloyd maintained his complete innocence and said he was the victim of an elaborate scheme to frame him.
“Right now I fear for my life because I feel the police gon want to kill me,” he said. “I tell my lawyer that I going for an insurance so if anything my children could get it,” Lloyd said.
Meanwhile, the allegations have been put to the RVIPF by this news site for a response.
Prison life a challenge
Lloyd said that life behind bars for just under two years was a "challenge."
“It was a challenge to me and if I wasn't the kind of person I was… humble throughout most of my life...not the monster what people say," he said.
He said that during the month of November 2015 the police came to the prison to search his cell.
“They come in November to do a search and I never let them in...I block the gate...you check? I never let them in. I tell them bring Alwyn James,” he said, referring to the Deputy Commissioner of Police and acting Commissioner of Police at the time Alwyn James.
“How come he sending allyuh? Is he got me in here,” he related.
He is alleging that for nearly 11 months he was restricted to a diet of tofu. “Every single day,” he said. “My body purging now.”
Lloyd said that if it wasn't for the fact that he had money to buy what he needed or got a hot plate from somebody he would not have been eating anything but tofu.
According to Lloyd, it was as if the prison officers expected him to behave like an animal to get what he wanted. He said, however, he was able to remain composed throughout.
“I just behave cool. If you bring something and I don't like it I throw it down the toilet and that's it. We won't have no argument.”
He said that if he was not a strong person he would have gotten like the others whom he said had to behave “like animals” to get what they want.
“I am a strong person. I does try to maintain my strength. I guess you could see how long my hair is...I actually think like I come from the Bible like Samson because I was in that fire and I come out,” he said, making a biblical analogy.
Continuing with the biblical references, Lloyd said that he, Guishard and Christopher were like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as they were in the fire but came out unscathed.
“I went through hell up in that place...I spent 23 months in that prison and you could ask any guard or the Superintendent...I never said a thing to one inmate,” he said.
Lloyd said that it is for that reason that he had a VCR and sound system so that he could keep himself occupied.
“I had everything I needed...I buy a fridge but I couldn't keep it in the cell so the guard them had it for me and I was alright.”
Lloyd said that he continued to keep the faith saying that he prayed every day. “I used to always say mankind put me here but God gon put me back on the streets,” he said.
