EAST END, Tortola, VI – It was the end of week one of the new year and that of the second academic term for schools across the territory but for the Willard Wheatley Primary School it was one of camaraderie and new beginnings.

Yesterday morning January 9, 2015 when the bell rang for assembly at the school, the students and teachers were all hyped for an assembly that was not one to be done in the usual fashion as for them they were about to witness an unveiling that was symbolic of a new beginning.

During the course of the previous term, the Parent Teachers’ Association, teachers and administration had set out on a mission to raise the standard at the school by creating an environment that would aid the learning and teaching processes.

Of the many things that were accomplished were the crafting of a new motto for the school and the staging of an inter-schools basketball competition. Yesterday’s special assembly was for the unveiling of the new motto board.

With a display of a very welcoming child friendly art work, the motto board reads, “Every Student Matters… Every moment counts”. The old motto, which continues to be a part of the school system as it remains the print on school clothes and other things, is “Forward we go”.

On the side of camaraderie, students of the Francis Lettsome Primary School had their moment of winning the Willard Wheatley Primary ‘Rep your school’ basket ball tournament held during the latter months of 2014.

Willard Wheatley Primary School’s PTA President Mrs Stephany Brewley-George and PTA member Mr Aaron Harry presented trophies to the winning school Francis Lettsome Primary.

According to Mrs Brewley-George, much more is in store for the Willard Wheatley Primary School for 2015.

Thanks were extended to Japhix for donating the sign, Ms Kasheema Louis for designing and Mr Mario Pickering and Ms Sharlene Thomas for erecting the motto board.

Educators need to try everything today. You will never believe what an impact a Motto can have on a child's drive to education. Good Job, Mrs. Penn-Charles and staff.
