ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- His early passion and talent for drawing continue to be recognised, but in a much bigger way, as Third Form student of the Elmore Stoutt High School Kachife M. Bradshaw was recently among the winners of the NAGICO Insurances Regional Art Competition and is now $500 richer as a result.

Bradshaw and his work will also continue to be publicised as the winning pieces selected from throughout the Caribbean will be featured in the NAGICO Insurances 2016 calendar, along with the picture of the winner, the name of the school the student attends and the country.

NAGICO’s Art Competition was open to students ages 6-16. To enter the competition, each student was required to submit a drawing depicting the theme: My Heritage, My Culture.

Bradshaw’s drawing depicted a Virgin Islands home with the famous ‘stone oven’ in the yard, along with banana, coconut and mango trees, among others.

NAGICO Insurances expressed its appreciation for Bradshaw’s achievement by presenting him with a cheque for $500 at its main office on Waterfront Drive today, June 2, 2015.

Not one to portray much excitement, Bradshaw, who related he would like to become an architect someday, said he was pleased to have won the competition and that he took three days to complete his work. He also expressed appreciation to his family for supporting his passion and his art teacher at the Elmore Stoutt High School Mr Justin Hodge for encouraging him to enter the competition.

The young man said his passion for art began around the age of 11. “I always liked to look at cars and bikes and just draw them,” he said, added that while he would like to become an architect he would still like to do his art “on the side”.

Accompanying Mr Bradshaw to the presentation today was his father Mr Desrick D. Butler who said his son displayed a passion for art at an early age and that his talent is given much recognition at the school he attends. “They would always call on him to do anything concerning art at the school,” Mr Butler told Virgin Islands News Online.

Meanwhile, Bradshaw was among twelve winners of the Regional competition.

According to Shaquilla K. Smith, Customer Service Representative at Nagico Insurances, Bradshaw’s winning piece will be featured on the 2016 NAGICO Insurances annual calendars which are widely distributed across the 19 territories in which the company operates.

On hand to congratulate Mr Bradshaw at today’s presentation were ‎Managing Director at NAGICO Insurances, Mr Shan Mohamed and Insurance Manager Mr Simon Cross.
