ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In a packed Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and amidst loud cheers, the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) Lady Rams showed how exciting and creative cheerleading can be, winning the hearts of the judges in the process.

The event was the Battle of the High School Cheer Competition on June 1, 2019.

The cheerleading squad of 19 cheered their way to the top spot, beating out the competition locally as well as from the United States Virgin Islands (USVI).

The elated team, decked out in mostly yellow, was personally congratulated by Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) who attended the event despite his busy schedule.

Second place went to Central High School 'Caribs' of St Croix and third Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS).

The fourth, fifth and sixth positions were occupied by Charlotte Amalie High School (CAHS) 'Chicken Hawks', Ivanna Eudora Kean High School (IEKHS) 'Devil Rays' of St Thomas and Bregado Flax Educational Centre (BFEC) respectively.

'Rams unstoppable'

Coach of the ESHS Lady Rams, Ms Bianca J. Dougan told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) the Battle of the High School Cheer Competition the first competition of its kind, therefore it was the first competition as a team for the Lady Rams.

“The girls enjoyed being on the big stage working to win this competition. They worked really hard leading up to the competition and their chemistry as a group on that night was astonishing. We are very pleased to have won this competition confirming what we already know – ‘The ESHS Lady Rams are unstoppable,’” Ms Dougan said.

Coach Dougan said the Rams Cheerleading Squad is an organisation that is active all year round and this would have helped them to be prepared for the competition in short time. “We don’t prepare only for competitions. We are called upon often to dance at various functions in the community so we are always in a state of readiness. The girls are very dedicated to the squad.”

On behalf of the victorious Lady Rams, Ms Dougan expressed gratitude to their supporters “for believing in us and showing up in great numbers to encourage the girls. I wish to also thank our competitors for participating and making the event very competitive.”
