ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Stuart N. Barnes, the Surrey County Cricket Club and England U19 Coach, is visiting the territory as a guest of the BVI Cricket Association (BVICA) and will be holding coaching clinics for high school and senior players.

Barnes, who arrived on Monday February 22, 2016 and has already held a two-hour session at Cedar International School, will next be working with students of the Elmore Stoutt High School today, Thursday February 25, 2016 at Greenland Recreation Ground in East End.

Co-sponsored by Nerine Fiduciaries, Romasco Group and LIME BVI, Barnes will also hold coaching sessions on Saturday for the senior players at Greenland and will visit Virgin Gorda on Monday February 29, 2016 to work with Boys and Girls from Bregado Flax Educational Centre.

BVICA President Mr Charlie E. Jackson commended Mr Jadid Khan, who heads the Cricket Sub Committee, for his efforts in bringing such a high class coach as Stuart to the territory.

“As we plan to further develop our high school cricketers and prepare them for Age Group National Representative Cricket amongst the other territories of the Leeward Islands, this is a one of a kind opportunity to show them what it takes to become a great and successful cricketer. Moreover, Mr Barnes will also take time to put our senior bowlers through their paces as well, further ensuring they too are better prepared to understand the mechanics and strategy to bowling for when they face higher calibre opposition in Regional Tournaments,” Mr Jackson said.

Schedule for sessions

Notification has gone out regarding the sessions via all high school coaches, however, it is not too late to participate as all the sessions are open to all children of high school age.

Parents of children aged 11-16 – are asked to note the schedule bring their children along, boys or girls.

Thursday February 25- Greenland Recreation Ground, East End - 2pm-5pm
Monday February 29 - Bregado Flax Educational Centre, VG - 2pm-4pm

There will be a separate session for seniors on Saturday February 27, 2016 from 2pm to 6pm at the Greenland Recreation Ground.

Barnes, 42, joined Surrey from Gloucestershire where he had been since 1997. After being initially employed as a recreational coach, Barnes was promoted to become Academy Director and Second XI coach, as well as acting as assistant to Director of Cricket John Bracewell.

Whilst at Gloucestershire, Barnes also began to work regularly with International sides, spending time with both Bangladesh A and the England Lions.

Most recently he was with the England U19 team at the ICC Youth Cricket World Cup.
