HUNTUM’S GHUT, Tortola, VI – The Enis Adams Primary School (EAPS) will be going all out for the win at the Soap Box Derby on Sunday October 19, 2014 as it makes its final preparations to race.

The school’s soap box car is sponsored by Nervin O. Wheatley’s business EMCS Caribbean and is said to be ready for the race.

The race takes place tomorrow Sunday October 19, 2014 at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

Speaking to this news site on Friday October 17, 2014, teacher of Enis Adams Primary School Roxanne D. McNeil said Caribbean Insurers Limited contacted the school about participating in the derby “and we were fortunate to have Mr Nervin O. Wheatley of EMCS graciously donated the soap box.”

“He had his team construct it and it is quite a beautiful soap box car. He and I have been talking quite a bit about the colours we wanted and so forth. So we chose the colours and he had it painted as well. He came by to the school. I chose two students to drive but they all wanted to participate!” she said.

McNeil said that Wheatley has been fantastic. “He not only made the soap box, he not only painted it but he came by and brought it to the school so that the children could sit in it and get a feel,” she said.

“He even made arrangements for the students to come at his business place to practice driving and getting comfortable with the soap box. We will also be [practicing today] as well because of course we want to win,” said McNeil.

Contacted by this news site for a comment, Wheatley said that he had a family emergency and could not speak at the time.

Other sponsors of soap box cars taking part in the derby are Hon Myron V. Walwyn, Minister for Education and Culture; CCT; Ricky’s Trucking (Ricky Connor); Avengers Basketball Club (Rajah A. Smith) and Benn’s Welding (Lorenzo Benn).
