Electricity upgrades; new bus shed at ASPS for new term
Mrs Flax-Headley related that the Ministry sought to implement phase one of its electricity upgrade at the school. This she said involved some amount of rewiring at the school in addition to a replacement of fittings for bulbs in the school building.
Previously, at lunch time, the electricity ‘tripped’ when students or teachers used the microwaves at the school, “so they sought to rectify that by re-wiring some stuff, so they have special sockets for microwaves and did a power upgrade in those areas,” the Principal explained.
Another issue resolved was that of a host of children usually having to wait on the steps of the school after classes to be picked up, which was seen as a "dangerous situation".
“They constructed a bus shed where the children could wait now and they would be sitting comfortably until their parents come to pick them up,” she added.
The wooden bus shed was built near the exit of the school to facilitate a smoother flow of traffic within and around the school compound and may assist in easing the school’s continued problems of traffic congestion in the surrounding area.
The initiatives were executed as part of a number of upgrades announced by the Ministry of Education in December 2012. This involved a number of repairs and upgrades to several schools around the Territory and were estimated to cost $70,000, according to a release from the Ministry.
Principal Flax-Headley disclosed that she received a call from a representative of the Ministry asking whether there were any immediate upgrades needed by the school and she related the issues about the electricity and the need for the bus shed.
The electricity initiative is believed to be part of a multi-phased project to be taken up at the school.
Meanwhile, the Principal further disclosed that there were no expected curricular changes or adjustments for the current school term but a few may be expected for the upcoming school year that begins in September, 2013.

There was a time in the BVI when jack like you could have intimidate people, but that time has long passed.
are you acting dumb or really cant read? they interviewed the principal and she confirmed that she made requests and got what she asked for. read the damn story man. what can be negative about this. the principal asked for two things and got them. ya'll steady on myron's d***, damn man. give the man some room.
Don't know when bvi will get serious about protecting the children. The kids parks are full of adults chilling out who are not accompanying kids. Many primary schools are also after care hang outs for the children who already graduated to high school. Those boys at puberty level may not be a threat to their siblings but what about other little girls. Lastly they need to board off access to under the stairs lord only knows what can happen there apart from pissing.
