ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – “I am warning you my people, please stand up for your rights, my people,” so admonished prominent talk show host Edmund G. Maduro on his most recent talk show as he blasted elected Government ministers for not giving of their all to the service of the people who elected them.

“Because if you don’t do it you will lose your rights. You would have an Author Hodge back in this place not one but many. Who would cause it? It would be you and me. Why would we cause it? Simply because we would not stand up together and declare to our representatives, you are not dictators. We have put you there to represent us and that you must.”

He accused the elected officials of Government of not working in the interest of the small man but rather for people like ‘Smithsgo’. “In other words they work for somebody else eight hours a day? Where are the eight hours they would find to work for you and I who elected them for that purpose?”

Time to stop the talking & stand up

Too many persons, according to Mr Maduro, are now saying that it’s time to stand up and turn the territory in the direction it should go. “These are not Edmund Maduro’s words; these are words I am being told every day of my life. It’s time to stop just talk and in fact stand up and fight for the rights of ourselves and for the rights and the future of our children to come.”

It is Mr Maduro’s claims that some government leaders are getting over $60k monthly, pointing his fingers at the junior Ministers Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Honourable Archibald C. Christian, an At Large Member, who the government is currently seeking to increase their annual income.

“But yet some elected members are working for private businesses, is this true, is this possible?”

According to Mr Maduro, many persons who seek to reach out to elected officials have not been able to find them to deal with their issues.

The talk show host, while admonishing residents to call in and make their contributions on the programme, said that he would not stop standing up for the rights of his people whether or not they call in on his show. “I would say like the great nobleman in the bible, even though you slay me yet I will serve you still... I will not stop standing up and speaking the truth on behalf of my people of the British Virgin Islands.”

Donald has a constitutional right to do everybody's laundry and therefore is entitled to shout his mouth off about what ever nonsense he wants.

It can't be true that Jr Ministers are making $60 a month, that's $720,000 a year. Edmund MUST have this wrong.

Its annually. Believe it or not the PS and other senior civil servants are paid more than elected officials. Edmund always fishing for nonsense to talk instead of looking at real issues. Since when its a new thing for elected officials to have jobs or own a business?
