Eileene L. Parsons refused to shake Hon Fahie’s hand & allegedly used profanity

Former legislator Eileene L. Parsons and Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) at today's event. Photo: VINO
PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI - It was a very disturbing scene earlier this morning January 30, 2015 while at the official opening ceremony of Agriculture Week 2015 in Paraquita Bay when former legislator and a respected person in the Virgin Islands community Ms Eileene L. Parsons OBE with allegedly colourful words refused to shake the hand of Virgin Islands Party (VIP) senior member Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1).

This display took place in clear view and hearing of senior members of government who were sitting alongside Ms Parsons, along with others, including some members of the media.

Hon Fahie on a social network alleged that Ms Parsons told him, “Boy you better get the f**k from in front of me,” as he attempted to greet her.

The exchange happened moments before the start of the ceremony.

When contacted following the incident, Hon. Fahie hesitantly told this news site, “I don't intend to make this an issue because I intend to be always respectful to all despite our political differences. It is an unfortunate incident but no one will pull me into their storm but rather I will place them in my calm. All I responded to her is that God will take care of her and I moved on to greet the other Members of her party.”

Mrs. Parsons who many had regarded as a citizen of high integrity is now on the slide to losing her credibility in the Virgin Islands.

She was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2013, an honour lobbied for by her National Democratic Party (NDP) Government.

Many persons were not surprised of this. Since taking office in 2011 the NDP has created a culture of disrespect for residents and law and order. Some NDP elected Members often use their time in the House of Assembly to insult residents and businesses they do not like, and hate the local media.

The NDP has publicly on more than one occasion blasted international Water and Sewerage Company BiWater and Telecommunications giant Digicel.

In a statement on January 27, 2015 they again lashed out at the private sector this time local businessman James Todman of James Todman Construction Ltd., for receiving a contract to finish the Peebles Hospital. The reason for their hostility towards the private sector is unknown, however critics have said they want to pick winners and losers in the free market system and there are issues of conflict of interest.

Gloria A. Fahie on her Facebook page today posted this message: “I admire the late Hon. H Lavity Stoutt because in public he was classy, knew about public decorum and you could not tell if he had an enemy or not in this little nation. At an official function this was certainly not the case today. When one politician extended his hand in salutation, he was told at least twice "boy get the f__k from in front of me" in a loud manner. This type of behaviour is [abhorent] and it is very unbecoming of a lady especially one that could be my grandmother. Shame on you for behaving in this manner like you were in a fracas at a market place. My God what kind of example do you want to leave behind for others to follow? SHAME on you!”

I don't think there is anything funny at all in regards to Ms. Parsons behaviour.

It is a disgrace that the former "CULTURE" minister would use such foul language! This is a woman who was awarded the Order of The British Empire for heaven's sake! Is THIS our culture? Is this what we are to expect from our so called "leaders"? And people blame the "young" people for the moral collapse of our community. Strupes.

How on Earth are we to raise our children to be polite, respectful and to be respected when this is the sort of thing they hear from members of our (one time) political elite? I am no fan of Andrew Fahie but at least he carried himself as a gentleman.

I am absolutely disgusted. God help the British Virgin Islands. Lord knows we need it.

Word of advice Ms. Parsons, the next time Mr. Fahie extends his hand in greeting. A smile and a polite "no thank you" would achieve your goal of snubbing him while (possibly) improving the public's perception of you. The truck driver mouth is very unbecoming of a lady, let alone someone who was (at one time) a respected member of the House.

I agree that there is no need for what Andrew said and quite frankly, I think it may have been slanderous UNLESS he has the proof to back up his statement. It may also have been redundant. Stating the obvious is never a very clever thing to do.

What would have been clever would be to ask the crowd "How many of you believe that our current government is being forthright with us?"

How many of you believe we are being told the truth in regards to ____ insert whatever you like here ___?"

"How many of you believe our tax dollars are being managed effectively?" … and so on.

He could have posed several very carefully worded questions and let people raise their hands in response. If the majority answered the way he had hoped they would answer, then he might say something like, "It would seem the people do not trust our current government." "Perhaps it's time for a change!" "Now that that's decided, let's party!"

Sadly, Andrew is often not very clever.

That being said and in my view, Ms. Parsons potty mouth places her several rungs below Andrew. Politics is a dirty game with winners and losers on both sides. If we are keeping score and comparing lemons to lemons, Andrew came out on top of that particular dog and pony show.

Difference is that Ms. P isn't running for a seat. Ms. P isn't a member of our Parliament. Andrew is. He should be held to a higher standard in this political arena.

Ms. P is OBE and as a result, she should be held to task for her public comments in that light.

But when I reach 83 or 84, if I reach there, I will say whatever the bleep is on my mind. nobody better tell me ah ting! I earned the right to say what I want. LOL

This was so uncalled for on so many levels, despite what Hon A Fahie may have said prior to what Mrs Parsons said does not give her the right to act in such a manner, just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean you have to display such lawless behavior and infront of other high ranking officials as well as kids and other public figures. This is not a good example to set especially for the youths. As a BVIslander this made me cringe when I read it and a she should offer a formal apology. Politics is really dividing us as a people here in the British Virgin Islands and it's very sad that it has come to this sort of behavior and if something don't change and change quick it will tear these beautiful islands apart one way or the other. This is a sad situation, very sad.

And when did this division really start in earnest? when the NDP came on the scene with their fear-mongering and trickery. The disrespect must be stopped though. This was one blatant incident of disrespect, but they and their followers are practising disrespect to the people all the time.

How can anyone come on here and blogging in support of or condoning what has taken place. I will not go as far as some of you and blame it on no alcohol. This was a blatant, reckless and delebarate and disrespectful act. I don't care how much acculaids she have behind her name. This one disrespect and immoral act has distroy it all. What really concerns me about this old lady rude and disrespectful behavior is that many of our children were in attendance and may have overheard such language coming from the heart of Mrs. ELP. What a shame and a disgrace. I think this is a nasty blow to the National Democratic Party all its members and supporters. I will want to see if Dr. The Hon. DOS will apologize this time on her behalf. At the same time I will suggest that The rude out of order, nasty mouth old lady distance herself from any public appearance

The NDP has the worst supporters. They attack VIP supporters call them stupid for having a different point of view and they never admit when NDP do wrong. They find it funny that Parsons use curse words at Fahie but lash out at Fahie for calling NDP corrupt. They view the Biwater deal as corruption but accepted the original deal with TPP pier project as good governance.

There is no TPP in the ports deal hush. NDP supporters attack VIP supporters? Good thing the record is clear for all to see who attacking and you just stating the facts. VIP supporters like you will be the reason VIP loses the next election even worst than the last one. Pure ignorance instead of trying to move the country forward. I have yet to see one VIP supporter get up and defend the VIP's last administration 2007-2011. With all the mouth you have come out and defend your party's last term and tell us why we should vote for them this time. You cannot, which is why you are now trying ot chagne the subject. Ms Parsons is a hard back adult so blaming NDP for this is ludicrous.

There is need for damage control here. Dr. Smith, as leader of the party needs to apologize to the public for this woman's behavior. If he is waiting for her to do it, he is barking up the wrong tree.
    • Outspoken (31/01/2015, 18:30) Like (7) Dislike (0) Reply
@nbc. I will never support that Dr. Smith should apologize on her behalf, he did it already when she made that comment years ago about that $100 dolla. If he continues to apologize for her, she will continue to open her big mouth and let out her rubbish. What the NDP needs to do is distance themselves from that woman

You really think so? Ask the other NDP politicians who were present and who also over heard what she said to Fahie and also asked them how disappointed they are right now and what actions they are planning against her. Right now they are distancing themselves from her. There is no doubt that she uttered those words to Fahie and was over heard by many others

Ms P has been getting away with her rude behavior for years. The Lord has now allowed her to be confounded by her wicked ways. Don't forget she said that the first time the Caribbean people see a hundred dollar bill is when they came to the BVI. Don't forget that she called Fahie and Fraser two poisonous apples from a mangineedle tree. This woman has destroyed so many innocent persons over the years with her mouth and actions. Enough is enough!

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Personal space is the region surrounding a person which they regard as psychologically theirs. Most people value their personal space and feel discomfort, anger, or anxiety when their personal space is encroached.[1] Permitting a person to enter personal space and entering somebody else’s personal space are indicators of perception of those people’s relationship.
If I ask you to get out of my personal space and you are not listening I have the right to scream at you so you can get the message.
