ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Radio talk show host Edmund G. Maduro is calling on the Throne to remove Governor His Excellency John S. Duncan OBE from his post in the Virgin Islands as he alleged that the representative of the Queen is failing in his responsibilities and abusing the people of the territory.

He made the bold call on his EGM Show last evening October 1, 2015 heard on ZROD 103.7 FM during which he dealt almost exclusively with the role of the Governor and why it was that he should be intervening into matters such as the National Health Insurance (NHI) and other matters of national importance.

“He is saying that he has nothing to do with [healthcare and social security]. But [according to the Constitution] the Governor shall so far as practicable attend and preside over the meetings of the Cabinet. This is telling you that he is the Chairman of the Cabinet,” said Maduro. “If you do not do what you are supposed to do then I am asking Her Majesty the Queen to get you out of here,” Maduro declared.

In response to statements made on Maduro’s previous talk show regarding the Governor and his being silent on the NHI, the Governor had indicated that Maduro needed to read the Constitution before making such pronouncements.

“Ladies and gentlemen I am not talking to you off the top of my head. I am reading to you the Constitution. The Cabinet is a very important organ under the Constitution,” he said. “Who is the Chairman of the Cabinet? His Excellency the Governor. So how in the name of God is he going to tell you that he has nothing to do with the policies of these laws that are being passed. Particularly with such importance as to cause your death,” he said.

“Nobody ain’t going to come here in my country and make me look like a joke,” he said in reference to the Governor’s earlier statements. "Ladies and gentlemen do not be deceived. Do not be mocked. This is a serious situation,” he said.

Maduro said that while the Governor challenged him to read the Constitution, he should have read it himself.

“He is asking me to read the Constitution as if I’m being an idiot…a fool. But it appears that he hasn’t read it. I’m not talking off the top of my head. I am talking through the Constitution that was granted by her Majesty the Queen. The Governor represents Her Majesty. Anything that is going wrong with the laws it is his obligation to bring it to her Majesty who will then give him the authority to carry it out,” Maduro said.

“Does this good gentleman understand his position?” he asked on the show. “Why is he trying to make me look like a fool? When I spoke last Thursday I read from the Constitution,” he said.

He said he is going to make sure that the Governor understands his responsibility. “I want him to put it in black and white. I want His Excellency to write me a letter setting out what you said…in other words, telling me why I’m wrong,” he demanded.

“You are my representative…you are my leader and if I misunderstand the Constitution I am begging you for an explanation in black and white…you are abusing our rights. Please stop it,” he said.

He is not your leader, your representative! He is the queens representative. Your leader is the Premier. If he was your leader, there would be outcry and be a backward step to colonialism so be careful what you wish for.

Sit down and hush Mr Maduro!

Edmund, go sit down, you can't see a gift horse if it hit you in your face. I born here and ashamed of your rhetoric and insults. I have been watching this Governor and he means well for the BVI, he want the BVI to be the best in the region, he has his part to do and the Premier has his part to do, let them handle their role. You remind me if Donald Trump, hungry for power...ooops, but then again Donald Trump has sense. Go sit u bacxxxxx down

Sounds to me like Maduro has to bring up something controversial to retain listeners . Maybe it is time to hang it up .
