ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - ‎Edmond Colaire 33 years old was sentenced to 15 months behind bars when he appeared before Magistrate Ayana Baptise DaBreo at the Magistrate's Court today October 29, 2014.

Colaire made a desperate plea to the magistrate not to sentence him to prison and things has just began to change for the better in his life with the acquisition of a new well paid job, and him securing a new trade licence to allow him to further earn more and improve his life.

However the Magistrate told him that she had already passed sentence and said that her decision was not based on him being a bad person as she had no such record of him but insisted that due to the prevalence of persons being found with unlicensed firearms in the Virgin Islands (VI) the message must be sent that it is not a matter that is being taken lightly.

Colaire pleaded guilty from the onset and did not waste the court's time as it was found in his house. He had admitted to finding, cleaning and spraying the weapon but said that he had no intention to ever use it as he is the person who likes collecting and preserving certain items.

The man was moved to tears when his desperate plea did not bear fruit‎.

"If I you fine me a $1k, I don't mind I don't have that money but I will do whatever it takes to get it, please your honour, please, don't send me to jail," he begged.

He was advised that the correct thing to have done was to immediately turn the weapon over to the police when found.

Sorry to advise you all but this message will go unnoticed. People with guns don't care! They will just learn from his mistake and hide their guns better.. My boy just do your time and when you come out, don't collect guns!

with these expat lawbreakers the VI is losing its only chance for survival, Every day they are the news.
Weed, the VI needs to weed them out fast and final.
VI does not stand a chance otherwise.

I'v known Edmond Colaire over six months. In that time he is shown determination to sort his life out. paying off his arrears in child support. And gaining full-time employment where he is a respected and in a position of trust.
I'm dismayed that no character witnesses were requested.
I'm also dismayed that in a situation where there was no lawyer representing Edmond Colaire. a sentence was given as a deterrent to others.
I personally disagree with the personal ownership of guns of any type. However I'm also appalled that no consideration appears to be given to the way this young man was responsibly dealing with a situation.

He is the new generation of BVislanders with the predisposition that has the jail overcowded.
Unlike the other names to which you refer , what he and/or his family has contributed to the making of the VI is nothing, This is his biggest contribution and it is negative just like the other new generation of imported and accidental VIslanders,

        @Bye Bye
I guessed that if he was carrying his mother last name which is "FRAZER" he would have been better off. you need to check your own lineage

@just saying you took the words from my mouth and for the uninformed the Colaires have contributed somewhere ,check yourself. It is high time we stop all this foolish talk about "send them home" deport them".If other countries decide to do the same? My Mama from longbush over here 52 years! There are many more,if something happens, God forbid ,would I like for people over here to say those foolish utterances?

St Thomians once upon a time use to say "Aliens go home" treat them bad ,now if the same Alien don,t turn out to vote they are doomed but the Alien has smarts ,they vote for their own people.Watch the result of the Governor's race over here and the "smartness" of the alien will show. The folks you call down islanders they are not stupid at all, they will endure but when they have planted their feet, move them if you can?The offsprings of the alien is coming home to roost.

You know the sad thing is that the idiot posting this "send him home crap" is just an idiot trying to keep the blogging on this story going - may even be an expatriate trying to push this agenda to create further division and anger. Lets stop paying attention to these trouble makers who blog this crap.

Ive known Edmond for a long time and deep down he's a good guy. I'll say it again.. the justice system is unfair and needs to be consistent! How can society becomes a better place when the powers that be are so corrupt and bias? However, there is a great God who is always watching.

Imagine this gentleman is sent to jail for an old rusty gun that doesnt work. He really is a decent guy. If I had the means I would hire a lawyer for him and appeal the case. It is unfair.
