Economy not robust; People hurting- Bevis A. Sylvester
The occasion was Delta Petroleum (Caribbean) Limited’s annual Christmas staff party on the roof of Cutlass Tower in Road Town last evening, December 14, 2013.
Regional General Manager of Delta Petroleum, Mr Bevis A. Sylvester, before letting his staff know that they all played a critical role in the company and that management was highly appreciative of their hard work, was frank in letting them know that there were many challenges, including that of a tough economy and that “people are hurting”.
“People may say the economy is robust and all those things but we know it is not robust. And those who say it is robust, they are living in the clouds. They have their heads in the sand or somewhere, but we know it is not robust because all of us in here feel it,” Mr Sylvester stated to the agreement of those in attendance at the ‘All White’ party.
It was another direct contradiction to what Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith had maintained for a long time before recently admitting in the House of Assembly that the economy was indeed not so strong as he had claimed it to be.
Recognizing the challenges of the economy and those faced by his staff as a result, Mr Sylvester emphasized on the need to improve customer service so they can all continue to have a job. He especially spoke to those staff members who interact with customers on a daily basis such as the pump attendants, cashiers and delivery men.
“A happy customer is a repeat customer and you are the eyes, ears and face of the company. If there is ever a time that you must do your best to keep customers coming is now…you cannot get a customer to come back to Delta with a bad experience. It is not every day you feel like smiling, it’s not every day you feel happy but you have to remember one thing, these people are paying all of us. They are paying you and they are paying me. So please, for 2014, let us make a conscious effort to be of better service to customers,” Mr Sylvester, who is well known to have his staff highly charged and motivated, appealed.
The Regional General Manager also said his heart goes out to the some 40 persons who lost their jobs in Virgin Gorda recently and said he hopes they find employment soon.
Despite letting staff know of the harsh reality of the economy, Mr Sylvester did have sweet news for his staff and that was that their yearend bonus was guaranteed.
Meanwhile, the winner of the Regional General Manager’s Award 2013 was also announced and that person was Sylvia Fahie, who has chalked up more than a decade’s service with Delta Petroleum.
It was then time for a Best Dressed competition in keeping with the ‘All White’ dress code and after much prancing, gyrating and even falling, the competition boiled down to two couples who were then made to dance and answer a question. The judges then said it was a tie after the question and answer segment and a sing off was then done.
A slick looking Diego, who was really unmatched with his dress and ‘Swag’ and Ms Avril sang part of the delta jingle ‘Blah Blah to take the win ahead of Jamilla and Junior.

customer services is not at delta anymore at VG station when them old staff where there like the one from SVG GT DA that was gas station u need to bring back some of your old staff you go there to by gas you have to wait on a pump attendant they don't want to get up off there a$$$$$.
So Tortola have party,what about the other ISLANDS where Delta located? Thats Unfair!
