Drug accused Donald George granted $300K bail
With one signed surety, George was granted bail to the sum of $300,000 and while given the opportunity to be free from the confines of Her Majesty's Prison in Balsum Ghut, Tortola, Justice Vicki Ann Ellis ordered that he reports to the police station at Virgin Gorda on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
He was also barred from public appearances during the night as he was placed on a curfew from 7:30pm to 6:30am.
George was jointly charged with David Straker, Anderson Flax and Lyndon Chiverton for the alleged possession of cocaine following a drug bust on July 22, 2015 off Virgin Gorda, a story first reported by Virgin Islands News Online.
The accused were all denied bail when they appeared in the Magistrate's Court on July 24, 2015, however, they had all exercised their rights by applying to the High Court for bail.
It is not clear what were the circumstances resulting in George’s bail application being made only Friday in the High Court as the co-defendants were already granted bail.
However, it was not until today October 12, 2015 that he was able to have matters surrounding his surety sorted out at the level of the High Court, which now sees him free from HMP where he was being detained in the interim.
