ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Radio talk show host Doug Wheatley believes that Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith must listen to all views when it comes to the National Health Insurance (NHI).

He was at the time hosting his 3D Show on ZBVI 780 AM on Friday September 24, 2015.

“The Premier will understand that he has a contract between the governed and those persons who have been elected as representatives and that he has to endeavour to satisfy all and sundry. He can't just go with the flow of the majority view because they say this is what we want," said Wheatley.

He said the Premier has to look at the concerns and see if there is merit in what is being put forward.

"And if there is merit in what is being put forward then he has an obligation and a responsibility to examine and to shift if a shift is required."

"So when the Premier comes back no doubt he will be able to make some assessments about where we are going."

According to Wheatley, some people feel they don't have a choice in the matter and they just have to sign up despite the numerous points of concern regarding the NHI.

As concern mounts regarding the health insurance scheme, more than 600 signatures have been garnered through a petition by Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru. The petition is both in paper and online formats.

NHI is very good, Private insurance been around for over 20 plus years and they still having challenges. NHI need a few adjustments. I am going to lose my private insurance, but it doesn't bother me one bit. They too bias, spiteful and favouritism. I Just don`t like the Cap on NHI.-- Eliminate the Cap, pay as you earn, reduce the fees for all. NHI is costing me more than my private insurance, because of how NHI is structured---That`s why I strongly suggest, Eliminate the Cap, pay as you earn, that will increase the inflow, which would allow the reduction in the fees for all. Its not all about me, insurance is critical for all of my people. they need to have it. NHI is good!

I agree with Doug 100%.-- Does Doctor Smith has any say though? Or he is just a go along to get along. He is a veteran Doctor, a good one at that, with a good Heart, so he should know all the challenges, pains and aches patients go through. This NHI should be Doc Smith Baby...

The greatest part of health care "Is peace of mind and comfort". Most of the population does not find that at Peebles,--- Our local private Hospital, (for a surgery) is very expensive. That`s the challenge. It maybe better and cheaper going to Santo Domingo, Jamaica, or Miami for a surgery where care, privacy, confidentiality and the Facilities are better...People here talk too much.

Only 600 people sign against it, is a sign
that it aint that of a big deal. A population of almost 30 thousand
people and only 600 to say something is wrong. Thing to talk.

I must thank God that I know Political History; some folk seeking to kill NDP for NHI but the biwater transaction was by far more detrimental to our territory than NH but depending on who ask biwater was the best things since slice bread (just saying)
