Dr Rawle R. Hannibal to contest the 9th District!
Speaking exclusively to Virgin Islands News Online, radiologist Dr Hannibal told our news room moments ago that he will be “running in the ninth district and I will be running as an Independent”.
When asked why the ninth district, Dr Hannibal said he has given some 15 plus years of dedicated service to the people of Virgin Gorda and he considers there his home.
NDP must go!
When asked if he believes the National Democratic Party (NDP) of Dr The Honorable D. Orlando Smith deserves another 4 years, his answer was a resounding “NO!” and said he has many concerns with the current administration.
He promised at another time he would elaborate to our news site, as he was off to a meeting.
There are two others who have their eyes on the ninth district to replace the outgoing long-time legislator and the first Premier of the Virgin Islands, Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE. They are Devon U. Osborne, and Dr Hubert O’Neal, who ran four times.
Five candidates have declared
So far there have been some five persons who have told the pubic through Virgin Islands News Online that they will be seeking political office in the upcoming general elections that cannot go beyond February 2016. They are Shaina M. Smith of the People’s Patriotic Alliance (PPA), Rajah A. Smith and Devon U. Osborne, who are both seeking the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) nomination through its Congress, and Dr Hubert O’Neal whose party affiliation is unknown at this time but is expected to run with the ruling NDP.
Now the latest is Dr Rawle R. Hannibal who is running as an Independent in the ninth District, which includes Virgin Gorda and Anegada.

Them just think we so bazzidy that any popy show can
say themrunning in my poor district, then again anything
can be better than what we got and had for last 40 years.
So many others has been involved with various parties and partly loyal politicians for almost 40 years, check for yourself and tell me how, when and where the PEOPLE have benefitted? NPD has turned a blind eye and its back on the orphan known as the 9th district, why? Becaused we didnt vote for their candidate, a candidate that they didn't really want but allowed to run on their ticket because they had no one better and because he refused to allow anyone else. YES! I Said it! Be naive all you want to..it is what it is. Same candidate and party that we have heard very little from/of and seen even less from/of since last election. (If anyone has any information and evidence that proves otherwise, by all means present it). We have been neglected and abandoned by the VIP for how long? Even when they were the ruling party and our Honourable Representative was the Premier and Minster of Finance and of Trade etc. So some ask why run independent? Seriously? A coalition government made up of independents may seem foolish to some, more so those who benefit from "party politics" but it is the only way the playing field will be leveled and the common man's voice heard and his business attended to. Let us give him our support, our votes and hold him accountable when it comes to OUR business.
