DR man pleads not guilty to possession of ‘armour piercing’ weapon
According to the complaint before the court on July 1, 2015 at Beef Island the defendant had in his possession one Mossberg hunting rifle with an obliterated serial number without having a licence.
Aksed what his plea was when the charge was read to him, he responded not guilty as he spoke through an interpreter.
Crown Prosecutor Garcia Kirt Kelly told the court that the Prosecution will require a date for the file to be completed.
He noted that he already had a statement from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) who inspected the weapon and determined it to be functional.
Police had determined that the weapon was capable of discharging warheads that had the capacity to pierce body armour.
However, the Magistrate lamented the fact that since July the relevant field cannot be ready so that the trial could proceed.
Almonte is to return to court on December 11, 2015 after which a trial date will be set contingent on the completion of the file.
Two others, Alberto Ovalles and Francisco Ovalles, had their charges dropped on July 2, 2015 and a third man had to return to court on November 10, 2015 at Prospect Reef for evaluation.
