GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Exactly 5 months after the people of Guyana voted in the historic March 2, 2020 general elections, a new president has finally been declared today, August 2, 2020.

The People’s Progressive Party/Civic led by Dr Mohammed Irfaan Ali has emerged the winner of the contentious and controversial polls that sparked a national vote recount, several court actions and a move to the Caribbean Court of Justice over the validity of the recount results.

The swearing-in of Dr Ali came just hours after Chairperson of the Guyana Elections Commission, Justice Claudette Singh wrote to the Chief Elections Officer, Mr Keith Lowenfield requesting that he presents his final election report using the results of the recount of the ballots cast in the March 2, 2020, General and Regional Elections.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Dr Ali promised to work every day in the interest of the people of Guyana and vowed to create a future that is much more united, as the country heads into a new era with crude oil as its major natural resource.

'Today it's about celebrating democracy' - Dr Ali

“I assure you, that later this week we will have an inauguration function where I will address the plans of your next government fully, today it’s about celebrating democracy,” Dr Ali said at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Arthur Chung Conference Center, named after the country’s first president.

Leader of the coalition APNU+AFC and past President, Mr David A. Granger vowed to take his party's concerns of massive voter fraud and election irregularities to the courts via an election petition.

Brigadier Mark A. Phillips will serve as the country's Prime Minister and Dr Ali, the first Muslim to be elected to the highest office, will serve as the 9th Executive President of the Co-Operative Republic of Guyana.

God is not pleased with this hijack. Granger's party won. If for 17 years nothing progressed and as soon as Granger took office, God chose to bless the land, that is a sign without a shadow of doubt that the former govt. has caused Guyana's slow progress. Look and see what's to come. Sad sad day. Lord help.
