ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI: Before a packed house of Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Congress Members and some observers, the governing body of the Opposition VIP made two important selections.

Confirmed is Dr. Arlene L. Smith-Thompson as the VIP candidate for the Third District. She will challenge Hon Julian Fraser RA, of his newly formed Progressives United and whoever else the other political parties bring in the Third.  There are now the Myron V. Walwyn led National Democratic Party (NDP) wing and a breakaway group reportedly headed by Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) the Health and Social Development Minister.

In the eight district the VIP confirmed former Deputy Comptroller of Customs Byron D. Fahie, who will take on the NDP’s Walwyn wing with Hon Marlon A. Penn. It is unclear who the other political parties are bringing.

Second district we are coming!

Chairman of the VIP Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in a fiery speech at the party’s congress meeting on the evening of September 29, 2018 warn that the party must “Stay united and whoever the congress votes for, you must support”.  He also motivated party faithfuls to go out and work hard, planning well for each district.

Hon Fahie who has been confirmed for the first district said within two weeks he will return to Congress to confirm a second district candidate to challenge Hon Melvin M. Turnbull who is expected to remain with the NDP, however the wing is unclear.

Until then, the next step is to confirm four At Large candidates out of some 12 prospects expected to come before the VIP Congress for the remaining four spots.

I prefer VIP, they have been a more settle group in the history of the VI. Under the NPD Leadership the political and maybe the culture on a whole has change and not for the better.
