‘Don’t take photos you wouldn’t want online’ – Dr Robert A. Mathavious
Speaking on June 11, 2015 at the college's Paraquita Bay campus, he told them of the need to be responsible with their social media activities.
"Now in this age of Facebook, Instagram, FaceTime, Twitter...never do anything you are not willing to be caught doing or that you would be ashamed of if your parents or loved ones see now or sometime in the future," he said.
"Be careful what you post...be careful what pictures you allow people to take of you...remember your reputation. It is hard to build up but it can be destroyed very very easily," he said.
It has been the practice of some colleges and universities to take action against students based on their online activities.
In some cases, such activities could lead to the revocation of scholarships.
It is also becoming increasingly the practice of prospective employers to access the social media accounts of persons wanting to work with the entity with a view to evaluating the suitability of the person for the post.
Some countries are considering passing laws against what is referred to as revenge porn, whereby a person who would have had accessed their partner’s private photos taken during a relationship now uses those photos - most likely nude photos - to exact revenge on the other party.
