-said VIP had long left office when the French blacklisted the Territory in relation to its financial services in 2013

“The French detected this careless and irresponsible approach that the NDP Government had towards our financial services and they took action,” he said. “They made 43 requests for information from our Government and I think they got something like 21. What do you expect? And they could look to blame us?” asked Hon Fraser. Photo: VINO/File

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) is rejecting blame for the ongoing blacklist by France of the Virgin Islands with regards to its financial services and condemns the ruling National Democratic Party for peddling this untruth.

The issue came up when a member of the public sent a text to the panel of the VIP’s radio show ‘Let’s Talk’ on ZBVI on November 26, 2014 asking whether it was true that the VIP was responsible for the blacklist as claimed by the National Democratic Party (NDP) at various fora.

“Can you confirm if the French blacklisted the BVI if it was as a result of the VIP’s behaviour? Did the French blacklist the BVI because of poor VIP administration?” asked a listener to the programme who sent in a question via text message.

In response, Chairman of the VIP Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) said, “Again, this thing is getting more and more ridiculous. Maybe it is desperation more than anything else. You are telling me, and I have to listen to this, that the VIP is responsible for the French blacklisting the Virgin Islands?”

“Now France put the Virgin Islands on its blacklist in August 2013. That’s two years after the Virgin Islands Party left office,” said Hon Fraser.

“Also keeping in mind that the VIP was the only party to sign a tax information exchange agreement, over two administrations from 1999 to 2003 and 2007 to 2011, while the NDP signed none in their first administration from 2003 to 2007 and signed none in their second administration from 2011 to the time the French blacklisted us in 2013,” he said.

“The French detected this careless and irresponsible approach that the NDP Government had towards our financial services and they took action,” he said. “They made 43 requests for information from our Government and I think they got something like 21. What do you expect? And they could look to blame us?” asked Hon Fraser.

OK Fraser...Seeing is believing. Countering the Ministers in the current Gov with your spoken words is fruitless. They are proud of their past. You have told us to overlook your past.
The information regarding BVI's blacklisting is public information. Certainly you can show us official documentation of why, when, wherefore from France regarding the blacklisting of your beloved BVI. Rsearc and request the info if you dare or even care.

Sounds real progressive by not less the French to blacklist a the new government two full years into their administration as punishment it seems for something the former government fail to provide some years prior. This is a bit far fetched and highly unlikely. By the way is the BVI still on France's blacklist? Eh anyone?

Stop the blame game. Because elections are right around the corner, there is too much blame going on. Stop it!! Enough is enough. The territory has more pressing things to accomplish. See where you can lend a helping hand.

I think the frustration of how the people view the NDP is helping france to keep us black listed

        @ Really the Donkey

So you're saying as soon NDP sit in the Complex on Nov 7th 2011 everything became there fault automatically ????

The 4 years VIP was sitting in the Complex had nothing to do with France blacklisting us ????

If you were educated you would be able to read and understand, even Ray Charles saw where I said 1 1/2 years after NDP took office.
