ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Radio personality, producer and host of the Morning Ride radio show aired on ZROD 103.7FM, Paul ‘Gadiethz’ Peart has disputed what he described as claims of being an extortionist.

According to the host, accusations have been made that his show is not “playing [the music of] the VI Showtime band enough” while taking money from the Showtime band to have their music on the airwaves.

Gadiethz said he wanted to put an end to the claims because his show is the “most famous show on the radio”. “The Morning Ride Show is a fair and balanced show,” he said.

His belief was that the claims, which he alleged came from fans of the VI Showtime band, stemmed from the splitting of the Showtime band which happened last year. “My concern is that this will spill over on the street and then the followers of the bands are going to take it personal,” he said.

Gadiethz further alleged, “they have already attacked me, VI Showtime band followers, have attacked me… calling me an extortionist and claiming that I am charging people to play.”

He related that there was no proof to support the claims made in the alleged attack and denied that any members of the VI Showtime band itself had ever accused him of taking money from the other band to have their music played.

The origin of the original band’s split came when the host was throwing an anniversary celebration for a local telecommunications company, he recalled.

According to Gadiethz, he spoke with Ottley Hodge of the Showtime band on his show yesterday and the band member stated publicly that he doesn’t pay Gadiethz to play the band’s songs.

The host, who also doubles as the Marketing Manager of ZROD, said the station has a package that persons can take advantage of to have their albums promoted on the radio at a cost of $500.

Gadiethz said he felt that that he was being singled out because of the popularity of his show, “the show is listened to both locally and internationally and it is where you will be informed about what’s going on globally so people are trying to distract the show’s purpose by trying to get us focused on one individual or one group of people and I personally don’t believe the show has the time to go down that avenue,” he said.

DJ Taz [only name given] of the Morning Ride show said there was no truth to the claims being made. “We on the radio have a job to do and we do our job as entertaining as we could make it for the people…” he expressed.
He added that fans of the VI Showtime band were taking it to a different level.

He also stated that he felt the band members should be good enough to come out and encourage the fans to refrain from violence during the upcoming Emancipation festival.

When contacted, Hodge said, “there were no payments made to nobody. If you all have evidence bring it, I know I didn’t do nothing.”

Efforts to contact Raul ‘Jugo’ Sprauve of the VI Showtime band were unsuccessful.

Paying dj's to play ur music is not uncommon. it is illegal yes but it wont stop. join the band wagon or live with the consequence especially if you are new and up and comming act.. #justsayin!!

There is no radio station in business to air projects and music for free unless they are a sponsor of the project. Everything heard on radio have a price tag to it so if Mr. Gadites (Paul) wants to charge, he may do so once it is in the policy of the station. However, if he uses the station to fill his pockets and not pay the station well the owner, Mr. Rodney Herbert, should resolve such a problem.

The charge these guys are talking about is nothing new (PAYOLA) meaning pay to get played is done all over the world although in some places it is illegal to do so. Unfortunately, that is not the case in the BVI according to law. So Mr. DJ continue to make your money as long as you uphold the policies of the station you are working for. Case closed.

Local bands have to pay $500 to promote their albums? Why? That is being paid to get your songs played. Same darned thing any how you turn it. Festival time at that? ZROD just ridiculous. That never happens in the USVI. Local artists are given extra airtime for free. We support our own. This guy is helping to destroy our community. Any time you don't advertise with ZROD he has all kinds of negative to say about you. He needs to go!

You just answered your own question and didn't realize it. Promoting an album is not the same as playing a song. Name one artist where their entire album was in rotation at any radio station. They play a few songs from the album. If you want your album promoted anywhere in the world whether on TV or Radio you have to pay for it. The key word is 'promotion' and if it's clear to all bands that there's a difference what is the outcry about? If I pay for promotion and you don't, then my album is 'promoted' while your songs are just 'played' what is the noise about? People can't read in this place or what.

Now I don't understand, on FB day before and on the morning ride show this morning this gentleman and his cohorts basically said that the pay to play thing didn't start with them so why everybody up in arms. But now all of a sudden we all ethical and that's a ridiculous notion. Which is it?

To Zrod i am not getting this $500 album promotion thing. Its music, your station plays music, I dont see why a artist needs to pay $500.

Back to the DJ, this is a vast contradiction to all that was said on various social media and even on the show yesterday. MAN UP and defend what you saying.

To clear the air this arose not because of one showtime getting played more than the other. It started over the fact that our radio personalities tend to not encourage the festival atmosphere round this time of year. Nothing against the other genres of music but this is our time and as was rightfully stated anywhere else in the Caribbean you go #1 their musicians get year round play. #2 during their festivities the music of that culture gets elevated playing time.

My God Man please place that EGO in check! The statement that you have the most famous show on radio must come as a shock to folks like Steve Harvey and Tom Joiner who work in areas that actually measure ratings.

Then you go on to state that: "Gadiethz said he felt that that he was being singled out because of the popularity of his show, “the show is listened to both locally and internationally and it is where you will be informed about what’s going on globally so people are trying to distract the show’s purpose by trying to get us focused on one individual or one group of people and I personally don’t believe the show has the time to go down that avenue,” he said.

Here are a few facts: All of the local radio stations stream internationally via the internet. ALL local radio shows are international by default. The Morning Ride show for anyone with a brain is nothing but self birthed contreversy birthed by the master of the fake accents. Everything said or done on that show is transparent and brainless.

People here are so stupid it's not funny. The article said they have a package for $500 to PROMOTE your album, it says nothing about playing songs in rotation. Promotions cannot be free! If you want your album to be promoted pay the fing money and hush. If you just want your album played in regular rotation then you submit it to be played based on requests from listeners. If the other band agree to the $500 and you do not, how the F*** you going to complain about their album being pushed and not yours? If you are promoting an album, it can take 30 mins to an hour. It means they play all the songs on the album. It means they interview the band, talk about upcoming events etc. Put the band's name out there. That's marketing and it cannot be free. Hell, for $500 if I had a band I would pay it twice given the number of bands out there vying for this. This is all about friendship and favorites not about principle. These people that like one band over the other letting emotion cloud their judgement. I never hear you had to pay for your song to play. What I understand is that you pay if you want full promotion and I don't see anything wrong with that. Radio station is a business. If your album is promoted then it means you will get sales. So you should make money and the station doesn't? The station is also paid to bring Festival events LIVE. They should do that too because it's a local station? I can't believe the $h!t I'm reading lol. If you don't want to pay, STFU and don't hate on the man who might pay. REAL!!!

AS THE BEST CRUSADER FOR SO CALLED " LOCAL " MUSIC ON THE ISLAND I DONT REALLY CARE IF MY MUSIC IS AIRED ON THE RADIO. I HAVE BEEN A STAPLE IN THIS INDUSTRY FOR MANY YEARS ON ALL OF THE STATIONS AND I CAN CONFIRM WITH A FACT THAT THEIR IS A DEFINITE BIAS THAT IS STILL GOING ON TO THIS DAY. THEY HAVE TRADED IN TRUE POWER FOR SELF FAME A POWER THAT CAN MAKE MONEY FOR THE BVI THEY HAVE SACRIFICED TO MAKE A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY FOR THEM SELVES AND I DONT BLAME THEM AND I AM NOT MAD THEM BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY MOST IF NOT ALL DIDNT KNOW ANY BETTER. THEY HAD NO MODEL TO FOLLOW, THEY DID NOT STUDY THEIR HISTORY SO THEY COULD BE THE MASTERS OF THEIR CRAFT, SO SUCH POWER IN THE HANDS OF NAIVE IS USELESS. SO THERE FORE THE VEHICLE IS USELESS, ARTIST OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR WORK. ITS JUST THAT YOU KEEP GIVING YOUR SEEDS, THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOR TO THE WRONG FARMERS. CAUSE A FARMER CAN HAVE THE BEST SOIL IN THE WORLD, BUT IF YOU GAVE HIM YOUR SEEDS ( THATS IF HE EVEN PLANTS IT NOT TROW IT IN THE TRASH ) IF HE DOES NOT ALLOW IT TO GET LIGHT IT WILL NOT GROW. BUT EVEN IF YOUR OWN SOIL IS BAD, IF YOU PLANT YOUR OWN SEED AND YOU FARM IT YOURSELF LIKE YOUR LIFE, YOUR SURVIVAL DEPENDED ON IT, YOU COULD STILL REAP A PLENTIFUL HARVEST. MAC MILLER HAD A BILLBOARD NUMBER 1 ALBUM WITH NO RADIO CAMPAIGN. IF YOU SAY YOU ARE AN ARTIST AND YOU BELIEVE IN YOUR WORK. YOU CAN DO IT TOO.

ZROD aint the only local station dudes! BTW if you are sure that people are paying to get their music played more then go out and pay him more its just logic.

We need to stop or else jouvert and other festivities will be ruined because of ppl and their stupidity. It will have a number of fights. The Police should make a public statement that once one is caught fighting during the festivities will be locked up and not released until everything is done. It doesnt look good nor sound good to visitors that are planning to come here for that time. Lets put ano end to it in order to boost our economy for that time.

All Push Pop play is just VI Showtime but is his show he is in control. The difference between the 2 bands is that more mature music attract mature ppl (Showtime) and sensless music attract naive ppl (VI Showtime) and thats where the problem starts. Both bands should join and sing each other songs for peace sake and bring unity among fans so we can have a peaceful festival.

Village is not even open yet! What's the noise on Djs playing and not playing local festival music!? They are human just like us. If something appeals to your ear you play it if it doesn't you don't simple. The rules of a DJ is not to play everyone music all the time. Some DJs have a target audience and cater to who they want! Like trash he caters to back in the day music that's all you hear at le grande, dre some what stay update, commodore just play new everything and takes us back whenever and burtrum just too routine... at the end of it listen to all and chose who you want to listen to it really aint that serious to make headlines. Everywhere you'll have the same hiccup with djs because that one dj in the jam probably is does not like your style of music you either leave the party or change your station or make something you think they will play. WE ARE ALL ONLY HUMAN!
