ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Duff’s Bottom resident, 44-year-old Keith S. Smith, is being criminally charged for assault occasioning actual bodily harm at the Magistrate’s Court, after he allegedly fractured a man’s jaw at a well-known Tortola bar on June 21, 2019.

Smith, who is among other things, a disk jockey, claimed he was having a bad day and wanted to be left alone when the intoxicated Virtual Complainant (VC) came to greet him, with ‘spit’ coming from his mouth.

Prosecutors said, Smith allegedly fisted the VC twice on his left side of his jaw which caused the VC to fall to the floor.

The VC was later taken to hospital with a fractured jaw.

Stay away from the VC

Hearing no objections from the Crown, Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin granted Smith $30,000 signed bail.

She told him that his only bail condition is to not interfere with the VC in this matter.

Smith is expected to return before the court on October 28, 2019 to plead to the charge before him.

Attorney Stephen R. Daniels represents the Defendant.

The article said that the man went to greet Smith. Smith should have had better control of his temper. It seems like he was simply awaiting a reason to swing.

Maybe it was the 'spit'coming from the man's mouth that further aggravated him.

$30,000 bail for a fist? So what will he use to pay the medical expenses after paying all that to the court? This sounds to me like it is being blown out of proportion. Give me a break.
