Dione M. Blyden #1 draft pick in Hon Fraser 2019 League

DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, BVI – Talented national basketball player Dione M. Blyden emerged as the number one pick when the draft exercise for the 2019 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League took place on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duffs Bottom.

Mr Blyden, who recently played with BVI Bayside Blazers at the Battle of the Fittest Tournament in St Maarten, will don the jersey of debut team Skillful Ballers for the 2019 League, which starts on August 24, 2019.

According to a press release from the Hon Fraser League Committee on August 16, 2019, Skillful Ballers were able to pick first because the two lowest scoring teams from last year were absent.

Cedric D. King drafted by 79; Splash Brothers get Juan R. Hatchet

In the draft, 9 teams were to pick from 8 elite players.

The second popular pick of the night was Cedric D. King who was taken up by another new team, 79. The third pick of the night went to Splash Brothers who drafted Juan R. Hatchet.

Other teams picking up elite players for the Hon Fraser League included 'Nex', who drafted JaVaughn N. Cameron and new team 'Medic', who swept up Phillip E. Glasgow Jr.

There were three teams not in attendance; Da 3rd, Young Empire and Momentum.  However, Da 3rd has since picked Nathaniel J. Malone, leaving the other two to decide on Halstead C. Chiverton.

Two teams keep draft players 

Bayside Blazers, as the Championship Team will maintain its draft pick from last year, Travis A. Isaac of Virgin Gorda. This is in accordance with the League’s policy, as the team defends its title.

Ray D. Victor will continue as the draft pick with Pure Playaz.

The 2019 Hon Fraser Save the Seed League will tip-off on Saturday, August 24, 2019, with two exciting games that will see both the junior and senior 2017-2018 championship teams in action.
