ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – New CEO of Digicel BVI Conor Looney said that since Digicel entered the Virgin Islands market, the company’s cost of communication services has reduced by 20 percent and has over that period invested some $24 million in building a network here.

Looney was speaking yesterday July 30, 2014 at the start of the two-day Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Open House being held at Maria’s By The Sea.

He said although Digicel is the most recent communications company to launch in the Virgin Islands, they have made a significant contribution to the Territory over the last six years.

“We have invested over $24 million to build a world class technological infrastructure making it easy for citizens to connect and companies to do business both locally and internationally,” he said.

“We may be the newest operator in this Territory however from our launch in November 2008 we actually reduced the cost of communication 20 percent from launch and consistently over the six years we have offered great value to mobile customers and also our corporate customers,” he said.

“We brought significant benefits to customers into the country…our customers see the difference of consistently great value, reliable network and excellent customer service,” he said.

Looney takes over from former CEO Declan Cassidy, who is going to Miami, Florida, USA, to head Digicel's operations there.

Another caucasian again? When can we get some black people in these executive positions?

I am baffled by this quick move. From one white to another.

Your comment is nothing but completely racist. It disgusts me to know that I live among such xenophobic sickos. Why do you feel better if a company is run by a person of black skin color. I personally prefer if they hire the most experienced and qualified person they can import. My skin is brown, but when I look at people I only see the skin color the same as I would the color of the shirt they are wearing.
