ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Digicel and the Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs, have partnered to reward BVI Business through the 2015 Business of the Year Programme. Kristin C. Frazer of Trèfle Designs won the People’s Choice Award powered by Digicel.

The announcement came at the end of the ‘2015 Business of the Year Awards’ where nine businesses were featured: Trèfle Designs, F & M Halal Outlet, Akiya Brewley Designs, Greencrete BVI, The Rock Café and Sam’s Piano Bar, Mi Amor Jewellers, Solé Day Spa and Bella Blooms.

Trèfle Designs was chosen by the audience from the field of competitors to receive one year fixed line and internet service for her main commercial centre and a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone complemented with a calling and data plan.

Tommy Farrell, Digicel Commercial Director, commented that, “Digicel is much more than a utility company; we are in the business of empowering people, communities, and economies. This year entrepreneurship is one of our core business focus.

We would like to encourage more persons to become entrepreneurs,” he said.

“Digicel will continue to support entrepreneurial education and the growth of small and medium enterprises. We are proud to be supporting KPMG & the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship, who are facilitating the first ever Caribbean Accelerator Program for Entrepreneurs in the BVI. The program offers online training and high-touch support services - coaching, mentorship and more. You can expect to see Digicel involved in more initiatives that promote entrepreneurship,” he concluded.

Additionally, Digicel used their “This Is Love” Valentine’s campaign to promote entrepreneurship in BVI. The month-long campaign was created to jointly highlight Digicel products and also the services of local businesses.

“Being a business owner myself I was delighted to support entrepreneurship by featuring products and services from small businesses in our Valentine’s Campaign. I firmly believe that BVI economic growth and jobs depend on our ability to help small and medium-sized enterprises which remain the largest source of employment within our islands,” said Digicel Head of Marketing, Kareem-Nelson Hull.

Digicel’s Valentine’s print, TV and social media campaign featured and promoted products from three local businesses. The story line for the campaign sees four different young men vying for the heart of a local BVI beauty played by Alexia Solano. Each young man - Scott Glasgow, Noel Maxwell, Kameron Young and Henk Vergeer- uses the items sourced from local entrepreneurs: a bouquet of red roses from Bella Blooms, the chocolate-covered strawberries from Couture Confections BVI and an edible arrangement made of fruit from JB’s Kitchen”.

Complementing the use of locally sourced products, BVI’s extraordinary Saxophonist Jeremy Vanterpool serenaded Digicel customers and staff to celebrate Valentine's Day futher strengthening Digicel’s intention to utilize local entrepreneurs as much as possible.

“We are most happy to celebrate those extraordinary individuals who are courageous enough to turn their ideas into action” Hull added.
