ROAD TOWN, Tortola - Digicel celebrated its eighth anniversary with the Territory’s most awaited Black Friday sale. The flagship store in Road Town opened at 6:00 A.M. on Friday November 25, 2016 to cater to customers lined up overnight to take advantage of Digicel’s 97% off doorbuster deals.

Throughout the day, hundreds of customers visited Digicel stores in Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Both new and loyal customers were rewarded with exclusive Black Friday deals and received free gifts throughout the day as Digicel celebrated their Christmas campaign ‘Get Gifted.'

In eight years, Digicel has established itself as the most popular network in the Territory due to its ongoing commitment to deliver the best value, the best service and the best network experience for all customers in the Virgin Islands.

Throughout 2016, Digicel continued to display their strong commitment to the community through its consistent investment in youth, sports, and culture.

To date, Digicel and the Government of the Virgin Islands through the Ministry of Education and Culture signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide Internet access to all public schools within the Territory.

Additionally, Digicel joined the Adopt-A-School initiative, an initiative by the Ministry of Education and Culture, to adopt the Territory’s largest primary school, Althea Scatliffe Primary. The adoption saw Digicel making a contribution of $5000 to the committee while pledging its support to the overall success of the school.

Digicel has also partnered with the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports to host Gen-Y Factor singing competition. Durnel Sanderson emerged the winner and became a Digicel brand ambassador.

Digicel BVI hosted the Digicel NBA Jumpstart Elite Camp from October 7-9. The Elite Camp featured the top 63 players – 45 boys and 18 girls – from the Digicel NBA Jumpstart Clinics held in nine Caribbean countries during August. Seven-time NBA Champion Robert Horry and former NBA head coach Lionel Hollins and two-time WNBA All-Star Skylar Diggins coached the athletes. At the end of the Elite Camp the top 13 players were selected–eight boys and five girls—were chosen to take part in an authentic NBA experience from December 6-11 in New York. Among the 13 selected were, Shauliqua Fahie, Mahkayla Pickering, Omar Walker and Demoi Bradley from the VI. Last year, two VI players – D'moi M. Hodge and Malachy S. Payne made the trip to New York.

Continuing in sports, Digicel partnered with the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) for the BVIFA High School Football League. Virgin Gorda, Bregado Flax Education Centre is representing Digicel in the league.

To finish their eighth anniversary celebrations, Digicel launched the Christmas campaign ‘Get Gifted”. The campaign gives Digicel customers the opportunity to ‘get gifted’ hundreds of weekly gifts, including Bluetooth speakers, tablets, a scooter, a flat screen television, smartphones, free credit, double data and the grand prize $10,000 cash. But the Biggest, best gift of all will be LTE as Digicel is set to launch its LTE network during the month of December. The company is now in the final stage of its territory-wide build out of their LTE network which will deliver unprecedented speeds making it the Virgin Island's fastest and most reliable LTE network. Digicel customers can look forward to 10 times faster speeds when the company launches the network.

“2016 has been an extraordinary year for the BVI, and at Digicel, we have focused on delivering our commitment to offer the best value while ensuring we maintain our position as ‘the people’s choice’ with the best service and the most reliable network. Additionally, we are delighted to have the opportunity to give back to our community, and we look forward to the launch of our LTE Network ‘the game changer.' Digicel will be operating on the best LTE spectrum, so our customer can expect the best coverage, the widest reach, the fastest speeds, overall the best network experience. Again we say thank you to all our customers, with a big welcome to those who have just joined Digicel - we know you will see the difference on the BVI’s fastest and most reliable network,” said Digicel’s CEO Robert C. Mayo-Smith.
