Digicel announces free calls to Dominica

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Digicel BVI has announced its relief efforts for the people of Dominica as they recover in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika.

Digicel is pooling its resources to aid Dominica on the ground by partnering with the Government, the National Disaster Management Office and NGO’s to support relief efforts.

Digicel BVI CEO, Conor Looney commented on the relief happening on the ground. “Our priority was to confirm that all of our Digicel staff members and their families were safe, and we have also made excellent progress in restoring our networks to full capacity. Boats laden with blankets, mattresses, stoves and food supplies are being delivered to citizens of various communities, and to the Red Cross for distribution.”

Locally, Digicel BVI is implementing a variety of relief efforts that will assist families to be able to communicate at this crucial time. All Prepaid calling to Digicel Dominica numbers is free of charge from September 1 until midnight on September 6, 2015.

Also, Digicel customers who wish to donate to the Dominica recovery effort can do so by texting the word “donate” to 5151. Text messages cost $1 with all proceeds going to the recovery effort.

“Digicel will continue to support the recovery efforts on the island of Dominica. I would like to take this time to encourage our BVI customers to continue to be vigilant and take precautions during this hurricane season. Digicel remains dedicated to keeping our Caribbean customers connected at all times,” Mr Looney said.
