ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The hearts and minds of a few youngsters were surely lit up yesterday, February 14, 2013 with the presentation of a few Valentine’s Day trinkets from Premier and Minister for Finance Dr The Hon. D. Orlando Smith.

Nineteen (19) students of the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre, along with six teachers, received their presents when they visited the Office of the Premier as part of their tour of several places in Road Town. The students had just been treated to lunch at UP’s prior to their visit to the Premier’s Office and had also visited the Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron V. Walwyn.

Acting Principal Ms. Vansittart Huggins, faculty and members of the student body, expressed their Valentine’s Day cheer by serenading the Premier with a with a rendition of Jesus Loves Me before they wished him Valentine’s Day and expressed a big ‘I love you’ in unison.

Ms Huggins related upon arrival, that during Black History Month which is celebrated in February of each year, “we would look at black persons like Martin Luther King and President [Barack] Obama to celebrate… but we have other people here that we can celebrate also.”

She noted that the Virgin Islands has leaders who are heroes and upon examining leaders in the community, thought it best to pay tribute to the Premier.

The Premier was treated to a story written by the students in addition to a Valentine’s Day card. “Mr Eslyn Henley” did the honours in reading the book that was put together by the students to the Hon. Premier and also presented him with the Valentine’s Day Card as well.

Premier Smith expressed that he was happy that the students visited and talked about plans to increase the size of the school. “We know that everybody in the society deserves a chance to get an education and so we believe that the government has an obligation to do what it can to help everybody to make a better life,” Premier Smith said.

Ms Huggins mentioned that students at the Centre were engaged in a lot of activities besides the core curriculum activities, including cosmetology, sewing, computers as well as reading and gardening clubs.

She further noted that there was a lot of room for expansion and improvement but because of the space, they just had to make use of the resources available currently.

The students later received teddy bears and the teachers each received a rose from the Premier before continuing their tour.

I think people like you should have your computers taken away. The teachers and students decided to pay visits to a few people on Valentine's Day, the Premier happened to be one of them. He decided to surprise them with gifts and he is exploiting them? How about you exploit your brain to sense.
