Deputy Financial Secretary Wendell M. Gaskin ousted
It remains unclear whether he will retain his title as Deputy Financial Secretary but his re-assignment is effective Monday August 15, 2016.
As part of his re-assignment, Mr Gaskin will take up an office outside of the Ministry of Finance, Central Administration Complex.
The move comes as a surprise in the wake of the Ministry losing another Deputy Financial Secretary, Patlian Johnson, in March of this year.
According to a National Democratic Party (NDP) source, who spoke to this news site last night, August 11, 2016, there has been a “fallout”, however, the NDP official would not elaborate.
Efforts to get a comment from Financial Secretary, Mr Neil M. Smith, were unsuccessful.
Troubled road for Gaskin
It was in October 2011 that a formal letter of complaint was filed and a call made for a formal investigation against Mr Gaskin for allegedly violating General Orders.
Private citizen, Julio S. Henry had accused Mr Gaskin of conducting private business on Government time.
And then in June 2014, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had called for Mr Gaskin to be disciplined in the form of suspension after accusing him of knowingly providing false information to them.
The PAC Report had also stated that Mr Gaskin in his testimony before the committee had defiled the Constitutional process of the Committee and the Office of the Auditor General with “remarks which were neither provoked nor relevant to the matter which he was summoned.”
The report stated that Mr Gaskin exhibited a demeanour which was lacking in decorum and respect and which was both unbecoming for a senior public servant and a poor reflection of the office he represents.
This had prompted Representative for the First District Hon Andrew A. Fahie to make a call in the House of Assembly for strong disciplinary action to be taken against Mr Gaskin for his misrepresentation of facts in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and also for displaying behaviour unbecoming of the office he holds.

should have been demoted a long time. He thinks the sun rise and set on his @$$. He thought that he was indispensable, but he now realizes that he is not. How long should people tolerate obnoxious, boisterous, arrogant behaviour? consider himself fired, because when anyone is reassigned to the post of Special Projects, their office is in the Admin Complex Breezeway. Be nice to the people you meet going up, for those are the people you meet on your way down. Hope pp learn a lesson, that your position in life does not give you permission to belittle and humiliate others.
Trust me people this had to be done....this man was doing what he wants and refused to take direction?
You are right. What is done in the dark will come to light. All of them who benefitted from the Pier Project unjustly, and illegally will be brought to justice. It was all of a sudden you see big houses going up,. Mercedes Benz, and Audi's on the road. That looks suspect, because these luxuries belong to all who got big money from the Pier Project. These atrocities committed against the people of the Virgin Islands cannot be allowed to continue. @wize up, we will be watching for when those light bulbs come on, and brighten the darkness.
