ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- While the government has announced some months ago their negotiation team for the compensation payout to Delta Petroleum (Caribbean Limited) after losing a case at the Virgin Islands’ highest and final court, the United Kingdom based Privy Council, Delta Petroleum (Caribbean) Limited’s team has been unearthed by our newsroom.

Delta’s team include Vernon A. Lake, Managing Director of the company; Bevis A. Sylvester, the Regional General Manager; and David V. Fulwider, Chief Operating Officer from the Petrolatum's giant New York Headquarters.

More questions from Hon Fahie

The case lost by the government involves over 240,000 gallons of fuel which the Customs Department forfeited from Delta’s Pockwood, Tortola facility in 2012.

Government, in an answer to a question from the Opposition Leader Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in March 2017 named Wade N. Smith, Commissioner of Customs; Dr Melvin A. Turnbull, senior pastor of the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church; and Kevin C. Smith aka OJ, former Third District Candidate on the National Democratic Party slate for the 2011 and 2015 general elections, as their negotiators, with no one from the Ministry of Finance on the negotiating team, which caught the Opposition Leader by surprise in a follow up question.

At the House of Assembly Sitting of June 13, 2017 Hon Fahie will be asking Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith for a full update on the ongoing discussions.

NDP ruthless, Bevis sorry for tax payers

Speaking to our newsroom a few months ago, Mr Sylvester said this entire matter could have been avoided if the National Democratic Party (NDP) Administration had listened to him. He further stated that the Smith’s 6 year old Government had been “cruel” to Delta Petroleum in their actions towards the company.

Mr Sylvester, a former VI Government Ministry of Finance official, also stated that it was not a victory for Delta Petroleum, but he is “sorry for the tax payers of the Virgin Islands of which he is one.”

The NDP Administration over the past 6 years has a history of losing frivolous court cases, costing tax payers millions and millions in compensation.
