ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- If there was a yearly Good Corporate Citizen Award in the Virgin Islands (VI), Deloitte British Virgin Islands would be a frontrunner to cop the accolade, due to its significant contribution in cash and kind to the local community in 2020.

According to Deloitte’s Fiscal Year Corporate Social Responsibility report, which highlights the entity’s commitment to driving societal change through working with charitable organisations, promoting environmental conservation and contributing to a sustainable and prosperous future for the local community, their contributions to the community valued more than $35,000.

Charitable donations

It said charitable donations totaled $14,504 with a combined value of $35,255 worth of staff volunteering and pro-bono time spent supporting a number of local charities and organisations

In a press release on January 12, 2021, Deloitte said the sponsorship of charitable initiatives included the Bonecrusher Swim event that supports urgent medical cases in the VI, primarily involving children and where there is a need for assistance with medical and other logistical costs.

“Working with our local community, we were also able to provide $10,500 worth of in-kind donations, including used office furniture, supplies and equipment to various schools and non-profit organisations.”

Positive impact

Noting that fiscal year 2020 (FY20) brought a new set of challenges and unique opportunities for charitable giving, Deloitte said it involved its teams coming together to create lasting value by selecting various charitable initiatives that aligned to its Corporate Social Responsibility pillars.

“Through pro bono and skills-based volunteering, relationships with non-profits, charitable giving and other initiatives, our professionals demonstrated passion for making a positive impact in the community.”

Deloitte also said an exciting highlight of FY20 was the launch of World Climate where Deloitte committed to eliminate net-zero carbon emissions globally by 2030.

“As part of our journey throughout this new WorldClimate initiative, Deloitte British Virgin Islands will encourage our professionals to act on climate change both at work and home. And we will engage our broader ecosystem to create solutions that facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy.”
