Defending Champs, Ruff House off to winning start

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Following the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd annual Julian Fraser / Save The Seed Basketball League on Friday August 15, 2014, action got underway with defending Champions, Ruff House getting off to a winning start.

The first game of Opening Night saw the Junior West Gunners hold off the Young Starz, 26-23, with Ajai Frett recording 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 assists. Chelsea Hodge added 5 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and for the Young Starz, Isiah Thomas notched 6 points, 2 steals and Elroy Bollers 6 points.

The Nights second was won by Talk Done, 78-75 over the West Gunners, thanks to 15 points from Mark Noel, who also added 8 rebounds and received good support from Rudy Vanterpool with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and Glenal Layne 10 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal.

The West Gunners were led by Franklyn Penn with 16 points, 5 rebounds and Kishawn Pope 8 points, 5 assists.

Opening Night was rounded out with 2013 Defending Champs. Ruff House putting down an early notice of intent by beating the Avengers 111-108.

Ruff House were led by Shamori Dagou’s 28 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 5 assists, Kishawn Fahie with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist, Jamouri Dagou’s 17 points, 1 rebound, 6 steals, 2 assists and Roger farrington’s 15 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 3 assists.

For the Avengers, Travis Isaac scored 27 points, adding 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 assists, Garvin Frett notched 25 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 10 assists and Kevin Issac finished with 15 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists, 1 block.

On Saturday Swagga overcame the YEP, 35-25, thanks to K’andre Clarke who scored 13pts. 7 rebounds, 7 steals 4assist, J’quan Scatliffe added 11pts. 5 rebounds 1 steal and for the YEP Kachife Bradshaw scored 9 pts. 5 rebounds, 5 steal, 1 block along with Keneya Penn who added 7pts. 4 rounds and 2 steals.

Real Tool’s top scorer was Adam Dowad with 17 pts. 10 rebounds, 1assist 3 blocks. Carlisle France added 15 pts. 1 rebound 2 steals and Milford Todman 7 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assist, 3 steals.

Another team making its league debut, the Bayside Blazers opened their campaign with a 95-78 win over Da 3rd, with Dion J. Edwin notching 26 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Sandy E. Nadal added 20 points with 4 rebounds, Aldric C. Thomas finished with 17 points and Louie A. Poblette 9.

For Da 3rd, Ruben Reyes scored 20 points. 2 rebounds 1steal, Dominic Ward 17pts. 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, BJ Caleb 13 points, 11 rebounds and Dion Blyden 13 points, 7 rebounds 2 assists, 2 steals.

The Knights beat Run It Red, 77-75, to conclude Saturday’s action and were led to victory by: Jevon P’s 24pts. 6 rebounds, 5 assist, 4 steals, 1 block.

Kenrick Thomas scored 15pts. 1 rebound 1 assist 2 steals Nicols Charles 12 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and Nicolas Lawrence 9 pts 4 rebounds 2 assist, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

The top players for Run It Red were Tavon Phillip’s with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assist, 3steals 2 blocks, Nigel Carey with 11 points. 15 rebounds, 3 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, Gerard Vanterpool 10 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal and Reynaldo Smith 10 points,4 rebounds, 4 assist, 2 steals.
