‎ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Director of the New Life Day Care and Learning Centre Ms Yonette Adams-Wintz, ‎and her staff there are now closer to making the children they take care of happier as their handiwork - a kitchen garden - is bearing fruit.

"‎Thoughts about having a school's kitchen garden came about after teachers were often told by their students that their parents throw away their seedlings...germination is a lesson done even at the preschool level and this also helps students to appreciate how important farmers are.

"During these lessons children learn how things eaten are grown and what is needed for them to grow because plants are living things," Mrs Adams-Wintz told this news site.

DeCrew members Mr Sherwin Peters and Rayon D. Bethune recently donated a roll of fence mesh to the Centre. The two spearheaded a promotional activity on Sunday March 1, 2015 in the form of a grand barbeque, lime and car sound clash at Club Opium’s parking lot. They said the events were a big success and as usual they thought giving back part of their proceeds to the community would have been a demonstration of their love for the community.

The two men chose the day care centre and the Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly to benefit from their generosity. Peters said he had heard about the children telling their teachers, sometimes in tears, about their parents throwing away their seedlings and when the Director threw out the idea of having a garden area, DeCrew readily agreed to help.

Wheelchair donation

The Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly received a well needed wheelchair.

"Steps like these make us know where we are and what we are doing is being seen and appreciated in the community," said Acting Manager of the home Ms Crystal R. Williams as she implored the duo not to be strangers and invited them to be part of the home's Open Day event planned for May 20, 2015.

"Lots more need to be done here and this donation is very, very timely," Ms Williams added.

DeCrew's promotion had also seen participants of the sound clash walking away with cash and trophies. Rodney Beharry aka "Trini" was the 1st place winner while Ceon Hartman came placed 2nd.

DeCrew expressed thanks to their event sponsors Digicel, Skelton Group of Companies, Paper Plastic Products, M &M Gas Station and Paint factory, La‎ Dolce Vita- Italian homemade ice-cream, K&B Electrical Services, Kimbo's Trucking Service, Al's Marine Alternators and Starters, South American Seafoods, BVI Hot Spot, Diamond Sports Bar, Mala's West Indian Delight, Styler's Car Wash, Bobby's Dingy Service, MB Ice and Mine Shaft Restaurant and Bar.

Thanks to DeCrew for their kind generosity!

Sometimes as parents we can be real idiots. Then we wonder why kids don't have pride or care for nothing because we as the parents have none ourselves. My child attends NLDC & she's brought home her lil plant all happy & smiley. Throw away? nope, why would I.
