ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Residents of the Virgin Islands (VI) are being cautioned by the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), of possible showers and thunderstorms across the Territory—this as storms increase in intensity as the 2018 hurricane season progresses.

This, according to a public statement issued today, August 5, 2018, which explained that the unstable weather conditions are due to instability, “caused by a mid-level trough interacting with an upper level low and a tropical wave (which) will persist across the forecast area today.”

Waves Moderate

The weather conditions across the VI is forecasted to be, “partly cloudy to cloudy with a 60 per cent or moderate chance of showers and possible isolated thunderstorms.”

This evening’s weather is forecast by DDM as, “fair to partly cloudy with a 30 per cent or low chance of showers.”

Winds are projected at East North East, at 19 to 33 km/h or 10 to18 knots.

The DDM, in its warning, noted that the seas are expected to be “Slight to Moderate with wave heights not exceeding 1.5 metres or 5 feet.”

I hope festival will NOT be rained out. We need to celebrate our emancipation every year, good or bad weather. If it does rain, the plants and cisterns will be happy.
