ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Virgin Islands’ (VI) Disaster Management Department (DDM), is warning residents, of unstable weather conditions that will affect the Territory, resulting from the interaction of a mid, to upper level trough and an active tropical wave exiting the area.

The weather forecast for the VI, in light of the unstable system, is that there is a 70 per cent or a high chance of showers, while in the evening it is expected to be partly cloudy with a 40 per cent or a moderate chance of showers.

Winds speeds, according to a DDM press release, issued on June 19, 2018, will range, “between 15 to 30 km/h or 8 to 16 knots.”

Sea-farers are also being cautioned of likely, significant wave heights, of 1.2 to 1.8 metres or 4 to 6 feet, during the course of the day.

DDM said in its statement, it is not an official Meteorological Office, and as such the information disseminated is gathered from a number of professional sources used or contracted by the DDM to provide such information.

“This information is to be used as a guide by anyone who has interest in local weather conditions…By no means can the DDM or the BVI Government be held accountable by anyone who uses this information appropriately for legal evidence or in justification of any decision which may result in the loss of finances, property or life,” DDM said.
