CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI - Educator & Businesswoman, Ms Sharie B. deCastro believes District Two, in the Virgin Islands, holds the keys to the territory’s success in areas of innovation.

Ms deCastro made those sentiments during the campaign launch of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) candidate, Carnel D. Clyne on January 24, 2019, in Cane Garden Bay.

Bread Winner

“The 2nd district has come from a rich farming culture to being known as the tourism icon both on Jost Van Dyke and right here in Cane Garden Bay,” she told those gathered.

“Do you realize that every tourist who takes advantage of our BVI tours come through the 2nd district? Whether a stop at the beach or an island tour, this district boasts some of the best views and beaches. The 2nd district has built a legacy as a breadwinner for the territory,” Ms deCastro noted.

She says that many businesses continue to blossom and become iconic in the territory and they stem from within the district. According to her, “what amazes me most is the talent of the people here… the people of the 2nd district continue to make a mark as a district with very heavy entrepreneurial roots,” Ms deCastro uttered.

She continued, “It begs the question: How do we foster this type of business savvy throughout the territory? What other coastline areas should we pattern from the success of the 2nd district with the vision of making the entire territory a 24-square mile experience? What is it about this district that makes the residents and business community come together?” the VIP candidate questioned.

“I believe that you have a formula in this district that we should emulate throughout the territory – do you agree?” she asked the audience.

Build and Strive - deCastro

Ms deCastro urged the people of the district, “as you continue to build and strive, I challenge you to do 2 things… continue the level of innovation already birthed here [And] look at the global markets, see what other successful tourist destinations are doing and think 10 steps ahead,” she said.

Ms deCastro remarked that Innovation is in our DNA and said innovation breeds increased entrepreneurial activity which is key to economic growth and is a major source of job growth.

"With the 2nd district being known for having such fertile soil for innovation, I believe that the establishment of a center of excellence for innovators in this district—that facilitates the territory At-Large—is vital to raise training standards, boost productivity, address emerging skills gaps, and Align training and research with needs."

She further advocated for the training of locals in a range of maritime, technical and specialist skills in seafaring, yachting, boating, sail making, and the full suite of nautical and marine services.

What major mess cane garden bay is in .VIP need to stop lying to the people. If cane garden bay is such a mess why owners like Quito has not only rebuild his resturant but now expand on a hotel that has never been built in the district like modern times. If Cane garden bay is a mess why the owner of pussers has invest by now running myetts? If cane garden bay is in a best why other business owners continues to have small businesses continue business like the rental of beach chairs for tourist, small eating spots and other resturants open I can go on. The fact of the matter is THE VIP THINKS THAT PEOPLE OF THAT DISTRICT AND THE REST OF THE TERRITORY IS STUPID. FACT IS FACT THERE IS NOT MUCH MORE YOU CAN DEVELOP PHYSICALLY IN CANE GARDEN BAY WHAT NEED TO BE DONE IS TO FIND WAYS ON HOW TO PROTECT ITS SHORELINE FOR WHEN MAJOR GROUND SEA IS UP AND IF TIDAL WAVES OCCUR HOW TO PROTECT THE COMMUNITY. MAKING MONEY IS ONE THING BUT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INFRASTURE IN PLACE TO PROCTECT THE COMMUNITY IT WILL ALL BE A WASTE OF INVESTMENT. FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

Does this article say anything about mess? This article honours D2 and the legacy of innovation and entrepreneurship that has been there for years. Word of advice: Stop trying to stir up confusion.

Really? Ayo really desperate buddy. If the children can’t read what was she supposed to do? Stay there and just inflate grades to socially promote children like most were doing? No. She chose to get out of the system and not make noise but provide a solution by giving the children reading intervention after school. Y’all so custom of taking any old thing that when somebody stand up and do what is right though it is unpopular you try to paint it black. Cut it out man.

Thanks for helping my child after school Sharie. He was being left behind in high school because he wasn’t doing good in reading and comprehension. Don’t mind the noise. Keep up the good work.
