Crown may put Bob Hodge’s local charges on hold

Hodge (left) and his wife are not required to plea to the local charges.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Given the fact that Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens has ruled in favour for an alleged mastermind in a 13 year drug trade to be extradited to the United States, the Crown will now have to assess the local charges laid against Earl ‘Bob’ Hodge.

Senior Crown Counsel Valston Graham notified senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens that, in lieu of the recent development, the charges of gun possession and money laundering will have to be looked into.

Hodge, along with his wife Violet ‘Letty’ Hodge, appeared in court on March 13, 2012.

They have both been charged with being in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition, and acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of criminal conduct.

In light of this, the Crown has until March 27, 2012 to make a decision.

Meanwhile, Richard Rowe, who was holding for Herbert McKenzie made a successful application to have Mrs. Hodge’s reporting days to the Road Town Police station reduced from daily to three times per week.

Rowe explained that the defendant found it difficult to report daily. He was also successful in the defendant securing her Virgin Islands (VI) driver’s license. The Crown did not object to the application.

The couple is well known in horse-racing in the VI. They own some of the best horses including the retired champion Actspectation, Really Uptown, Glorious Memory, Memuneh and Lake Texoma. Mrs. Hodge is a former president of the Virgin Islands Horse Owners’ Association and remains very active in the sport.

You are absolutely correct. It is the attitude of people like West End, that this country is facing the crimes and injustices of today. Just because you know someone, family or friend, does not exonerate them from being accountable for their crime. Stop making excuses and believing that because they are "nice" they are innocent. No one could believe the charming Ted Bundy was a serial killer. Stanford and Madoff were nice family men who had no qualms about stealing the life savings of others. In fact every convicted murderer, drug dealer, burglar and petty criminal has plenty of family and friends that love them. If the world's justice system acted as the BVI in allowing criminal activity to continue and to turn a blind eye towards crimes done by family then no one would be locked up and the world would be a fearful place.

Seriously? My response was to the blogger "West End" and I stand behind my comment People must stop making excuses for criminal activity just because those facing charges are family or friends. All are innocent until proven guilty, however, much of the writing is on the wall due to media reports.
