ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia continue to excite and thrill, the Territory’s representative, Peter Adam Crook, has begun his final preparations for competing in the freestyle halfpipe ski event on Tuesday February 18, 2014.

Crook, who was born in the BVI, went to Cedar International School and trains usually in the USA, took several practice runs over the weekend at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park and came away happy to have started the sessions in the run up to the competition on Tuesday, February 18.

The freestyle halfpipe ski event starts at 9.45am AST (BVI time) and will be shown live at Captain Mulligan’s, Nanny Cay. Highlights are expected to be broadcast in the evening on NBC and SportsMax channels and viewers are advised to contact their service providers for information on broadcast schedules and channels.

The competition consists of two phases: the qualification phase and the final phase. Scores from one phase are not carried over to the next phase. In the qualification, all skiers are randomly sorted on the start list.

Each competitor is allowed to take two runs and the result from the better run is used to rank each skier. Each run takes less than a minute to complete.

A total of 12 skiers will advance from the qualifications to the final. The competitors are run in reverse order for each of the 2 rounds in the final.

There are six scoring judges whose combined marks on overall impression result in a score out of 100 for each run that a skier makes. The better of the skier’s two run scores is what counts.  A score of 85 or more is likely to be needed to get through to the final and a score of more than 90 to medal in the final.

If any phase cannot be completed, the results from the previous phase will be used to determine the final standings.

Adam was the BVI flag bearer at the Sochi 2014 opening ceremony on February 7. Adam’s participation marks the 30th anniversary of the BVI’s debut in the Olympic Games when Errol “Canute” Fraser competed in speed skating at the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympic Games.

You and I may think egg face is less than brilliant - but I will defend his/her right to be as idiotic as he/she pleases. Freedom of speech is sacred. Censorship is for third world and communist countries, not the BVI!

Highly likely he wont, but it is about the participation - then again you never know as he could pull off a big surprise. Do you have the b...s or skill to do what he is doing? What are you good at? You should take a good look at yourself, my guess is you are a lazy bum that waits for a government handout and have no skill sets at all.

I think it's wonderful this young man has the opportunity to pursue his Olympic dreams. I wonder who are the lucky devils who were given the opportunity to travel to Russia with him? I do not know him so am guessing he is one of the lucky few youngsters born in the BVI, I assume of expat parents, who have received Citizenship and a passport. I only point this out because of all the online forums discussing the plight of expat children born in the BVI who are never recognized as Citizensband hold no passport. Happy that none of that political snafu prevented his participation in the games. I'll be watching and cheering him on. If he were to medal it would certainly put the BVI on the map; he'd be an advertisers dream.

All the best to you, Adam, and have fun! Winning a medal would be wonderful, but you are already a winner for participating!

Cheers to Adam and his devotion in years of preparing for this event. This will no doubt pay off having a great experience. Just wonder why it is that many cannot find the time in relishing what good this can bring to our divided country... what does his skin color or background have to do with this.. can we for once just embrace the excitement of such event and maybe, just maybe... we can think of the BVI as a country of an amazing mixture of cultures beliefs and devotions.
If Adam makes history perhaps we can wallow in the believe that it was his win, but also a win over all the nay sayers, who will have hopefully come together as a nation and rejoice... Go for it Adam!!

I don't know him and might never will but I hope he do his best not for the country but for himself.
