ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in his 2020 Christmas message has reminded citizens that despite the presence of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the hope and spirit of festive season still lives in the hearts of many.

“It cannot extinguish the hope that is within our hearts and which comes from our Faith in our God. The Spirit of Christmas resides in each of us and in these difficult times we need to make the extra effort to let our lights shine brightly,” he said.

Maintain COVID-19 Protocols – Premier

He reminded that traditionally, VI’s Christmas has been a time of merriment, spending time with loved ones and rekindling bonds with friends and family.

“We are accustomed to the physical gatherings where we can sit down together and share meals, drinks, conversation, hugs and laughter. But we all know that this year is different. COVID-19 is still with us and we are not out of the woods yet.”

As such, Premier Fahie urged citizens to maintain protocols so the spread of the virus can be minimized and he asked that persons continue showing compassion for the needy and giving charity.

“Technology allows us to reach out and bring some measure of cheer to those who may be lonely and feeling forgotten. These are very meaningful gifts that we can give to spread joy and hope, and to honour the Christ child.”

Put a smile on every face – Premier

The Premier said that although faced with many challenges in this COVID-19 era, persons should aspire to put a smile on every face and warm every heart through sharing love and kind words that will permeate and saturate the VI atmosphere.

“May God continue to bless and protect his Virgin Islands people this Advent Season which represents the birth of our Lord and Saviour,” the Premier said in his closing remarks as part of his 2020 holiday message.

He said the VI is no stranger to tough times but, however, the territory continues to overcome challenges by coming together and looking out for each other.

Kudos to our Premier and a humble down to earth First Lady. Most of us love the job this government is doing despite all the challenges. All the best to them and the people of the B.V.I.
