RED BAY, Tortola, VI- A number of persons have been complaining to this news site, as well as to the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Eighth District Representative about a portion of reclaimed land at Red Bay, East End, close to Alphonso Gas Station, being blocked off with rocks and chains and preventing persons from using the said space.

Crown land

The persons have claimed that the land belongs to the crown and have been calling on the authorities to intervene.

“As far as I know the land belongs to the crown,” Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) stated when reached for confirm on whether the land belongs to the crown.

Two of the persons responsible for blocking off the area, Mr Alf Nolan Davies and his brother Denville Davies, say the land is historically theirs and has been used and claimed by the Davies family for over three generations.

Reclamation allegedly done by Davies’

Further, the men claimed that the land was reclaimed by the Davies family and while Government reclaimed land around it and built a bulkhead, all of the reclamation was done by them many years ago, using their own resources and materials.

“Some of the materials we brought from all over under this ground we on right now,” Mr Nolan Davies said, adding that materials were even used to build the fisherman’s ramp, albeit without their permission.

Awaiting seabed lease for 40 years now

They said the family applied for the seabed lease some 40 years ago and although they have been following up on the application, they have received no response.

“Everybody around here was given a seabed lease, even land reclaimed by government, but we did this ourselves and they telling us we have to give up the land.”

“Some of these reclaimed lands, done by Government, are now owned by expats and we who from here can’t get anything?” Mr Nolan Davies asked, adding that there are other lands nearby that can also be developed by Government for whatever purpose they have in mind.

Further Mr Nolan Davies said they already compromised a piece of the land to allow Government to construct a ramp and the fisherman’s dock.

The Davies said they are hoping to get an audience with Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) to come to an amicable resolution.

That Nolan "Dicky" as we know him, always fighting for things that not his .. He need to stop it.. The only good thing the government intervene in , is that what Tony Alphonso was doing by the gas station by adding on ,where our boaters must go GUYANA? .. Dennis his late father didn't own no land there, it was leased from the government also.. Greed is a bad thing.. Boaters have no say by Red Bay Wharf where they and the elders had for donkey years... SMDH.. Crazy

To Long Look we Come From: You stay Long Look because you ain't from Red Bay and stop yapping what you don't know. what Dicky take from you that he always fighting for and wants everything? No man in the world that have a piece of property would not want anyone to take it from them and that goes to you as well. for your information that land was sold to Dennis Alphonso from Berrisford Smith. You need to get back on this news site and apologize to Dicky for slander and causing confusion.

If this is truly the Davies land, and they have the paperwork to prove it, government needs to correct the wrongs and make it right. The problem is allowing people to sit on private land so long that now they want to claim it as theirs. I have my deeds and no one can use or live on my land without a lease and pay me every month, even if it is just one dollar. This will avoid such headaches. 40 years is a long time without proper compensation. It is a lifetime for some of us.

Why does the Gov conveniently lose applications for sea bed rights when that application is made by BVIslanders who owns the land bounded to the sea bed?

The government needs to step in and solve this problem.. Tony alphonso already put a footing and steel to put a big wall on the government property and although the wall is not erect the steel work poses the same problem because the fishermen dont have access to the warf..Alphonso need to cut down those steels so the guys can get their fish traps to their boats..

If you all think we BVI people are fools we have news for you. Preserve our heritage, to my knowledge that area was used to build boats and in my humble opinion something should done there to enhance the history of the territory. If we let everything go and cant preserve our history then we become a free for all.

This has nothing to do with VIP or NDP it has to do with right and wrong. Coming to an agreement is necessary.
