ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Commentator Edmund G. Maduro had a near miss while proceeding along the James Walter Francis dual carriageway earlier today, April 8, 2014 that resulted in some minor damage to his vehicle.

Maduro told Virgin Islands News Online that he was proceeding East in his white pickup along the roadway after leaving Conch Charters around 8:30AM when a vehicle made a sudden stop ahead of him before the traffic lights at the junction near Station Avenue.

“When I tried to negotiate the other lane, which was pretty clear to as there was nothing I could see coming. This [vehicle] came at such a fast rate and rammed right into me,” he explained.

The commentator further explained that the approaching vehicle, allegedly driven by Mr Lesmore Smith, attempted to brake and a nearly 50-feet brake mark remained on the road after it had come to a halt and said this was suggestive of how fast the vehicle may have been going at the time.

According to Maduro, his vehicle suffered minimal damage to its left front door as a result of the impact. No occupants of either vehicle were reportedly hurt during the incident.

First of all older and younger people do not adhere to the rules, so you get off that crap. Just remember, you too will get older and some young person will yell at you to get off the road...KARMA will get you.

We never know what the driver in front of us is going to do. The cautious thing to do is stay a clear distance away. Some of us don't feel comfortable unless you are driving right up under the bumper of the vehicle in front. The couple seconds behind isn't going to do anything to us, so just stay clear.

ok after reading wht drivers anda airrion has written i must say they r correct but in the BVI u can never stay 3 vehicles away from the one in front of u,as soon as a driver see a little space in front of u he will take it so that leaves u rite up under him and it will continue to happen having said all this it looks to me like the white vehicle is totally WRONG!!!!!!!!

Let's tell it like it is. If Maduro was not so close on this car he would not have had to swing into the other lane. I keep 3 car lengths between me at all times and impatient drivers feel they must go past and between me and the other car, causing me to break, slow up until there is enough room between us and I do not speed. The car that hit Maduro might have been driving too fast, but didn't expect Maduro to swing into his land, especially without signaling. Why the first car stopped is irreverent because no one knows why he had to stop or slow down, and this is the problem. Drivers do not leave enough room for emergency stopping. Now, who is at fault here?

Let's face it, no vehicle stop suddenly in infront Edmund they came to the light which turns red the driver infront stop, Edmund saw the other lane clear so he was crossing over to get infront. Talking about he see it was clear so the vehicle came out the sky then.

If Edmund wasn't driving so close up behind the vehicle when it made a sudden stop ahead of him before the traffic lights at the junction near Station Avenue he would have been in the mess he's in right now.. Maybe the light was turning and the driver didn't want to run it like how I see some people does... Edmund, you need to be forcus and pay more blasted attention and keep your eyes on the road....

50 ft. is only about 5 car-lengths for that jeep so he couldn't have been going that fast considering he only dented your door. C'mon Edmund, you know you changed lanes without checking.

I know that anybody could get into an accident but I have seen this man with my own two eyes (even had to blast my horn at him) because he driving like he can't see the road properly. I saw him one day driving going towards One Mart and rather than the man drive on the lane he in, he kept coming over on the other lane. I had to blow and shout keep on your lane. Next thing he pull back on his lane but driving as if he want to go up on the sidewalk.

That story he giving there ain't adding up when you look at that pic anyway!

This man seriously has to have his licence taken away. I witnessed him today almost hit the vehicle infront of me. Mr Maduro was not checking the traffic at all when he decided to try to rejoin a main road from a connecting side road. Rather than wait at the junction he just kept coming! The vehicle infront of me had to swerve to avoid being hit and only then did Mr Maduro look to the right to see what was going on!! At this point he applied his brakes but trust me, he was merely inches away from another accident. What amused me most was that Mr. Adirondacks then sat in his vehicle shaking his head like the other guy was in the wrong! Lord have mercy! Someone please do something before he ends up seriously hurting or killing someone.
