DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - For the second year, the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League will host its popular All Star night games in anticipation of the upcoming playoffs and Assistant Commissioner of the League Milton C. McLean has urged fans to come out and rally in support of both the junior and senior players in what promises to be an evening of excitement.

The All Star games scheduled for this Saturday October 11, 2014 will tip off from 5:30 PM at the Save the Seed Energy Centre, in Duff’s Bottom on the main Island of Tortola.

The family fun night is expected to be exciting for fans, players and coaches alike as the organisers have added many more thrills for all to enjoy, said a press release from the League today October 9, 2014.

There will also be a host of give-aways, from cellular phones to cash prizes, the release said.

“Fans and families can also expect a skills challenge in the 9-13 junior division, which will include layups, free throws, jump shots and three point shots,” it said.

Among other anticipated activities will be an ‘Old School’ game that will feature mostly 40 year old and above men. There will be an ‘Old School’ team hailing from Sea Cow’s Bay playing against Mr Karl ‘Dub’ Scatliffe’s team recruited from his upcoming annual 40 years old and over League.

Outside of fans, players can expect prizes to be awarded in the senior men three point shoot outs, along with the slam dunk contest.

“A much anticipated event of the All Star night will be a matchup between the best from the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League Western and the Eastern Divisions. Coach Rhennie O. Phipps will coach the Western Division team while Verne W. Turnbull will coach the Eastern Division’s squad. A prize will be awarded to the All Star MVP,” the release said.

The all star list of players has already been released by the League, according to organisers.

Some of the top players in the Western Division include, Louie A. Poblete, Kyle Abraham, Dominic Ward, Michael Benjamin, McKenzie ‘Bmore' Baltimore, Nigel Carey, Shakeem Blackmore and Sandy E. Nadal among many others.

Some of the players lined up for the Eastern Division are Kevon S. Lettsome, Rowan Victor, Kishaun Fahie, Jevon Serrant, Nichols Charles, J'Kwon Frett, Dwayne Stoutt and Kimron B. Telemaque, to name a few.

There will also be many opportunities for female fans to win prizes, the release said.

Speaking to this news site today, McLean said, “When it comes to the All Star game we are trying to get our best players from the league to compete against each other both from the eastern and western [divisions].”

“It is getting them to compete against each other in either division where they are going to now display their skills and of course we want to offer the fans something extra,” said McLean.

“The general public needs to know that this is going to be a special night and they really need to come out and see what’s happening,” he said.

“We also want people to know that the juniors are very much a part of our development and we would like them to come and support the juniors as well,” he said. “We have some really good junior players so it will be really good for persons to come out and see them,” said McLean to this news site.

This year the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League made history by having a draft system, the first of its kind in the Virgin Islands Basketball games. It provided elite players from Tortola and Virgin Gorda who were willing to share their knowledge and skills of the game to develop younger players.

This new vision has revitalised basketball in the Virgin Islands, according to the League’s Commissioner Rajah A. Smith.

Another much anticipated feature for the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed All Star night, scheduled for this Saturday, is the Draft Combo vs the BVI Basketball Federation League’s 2014 Championship Winners’ Young Legs.

Some of the Draft combo names from the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed League playing against the Young Legs are Ray D. Victor, Travis A. Isaac, Juan Hatchet, Dwayne ‘Kobo’ Penn, Jevone ‘Bugsy’ Demming, Javaghn Cameron, Eustace ‘Boss’ Freeman, Cedric King, Houston Penn, and Sandy E. Nadal, to name a few.
