ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – From groins slamming, greasy pole climbing to the smacking down of a greasy pig it was a fun-filled day at the Queen Elizabeth Park where the aquatic sports day was held today August 5, 2014.

The day of fun sports and entertainment was ushered in by trampers who turned out for the 2nd morning of Rise and Shine Tramp in Road Town.

The crowds this morning were a far cry from that of the previous day but were sizable enough to kick start the water sports events giving participants an admirable group of persons to cheer them on.

The day got started with the greasy slide water pole where several daring men participated with some appearing to be very versed in it. But for prominent businessman Elton S. Leonard it was no doubt a painful experience.

Leonard who thought it was a simple step-like slide that could have taken him to successfully grabbing the flag at the end had another thought coming. He had to grab his groin once in the water as he got a sprawling slam in that region of his body.

There were several others who were not successful and who had slips and topples. Then the other interesting challenge was the catching of the greasy ‘porky pig’. As the pig was greased it had shown signs that it would not have been an easy catch as it appeared to be very nimble.

When the two men who registered for the challenge broke off in the race for 'Porky the Pig' it decided that it was going to shut the mouths of those who thought it was going to be an easy catch but the pig failed very early.

The two men, desperate to catch the pig quickly managed to grab a section of the pig and none was willing to let go and it was a scene as if they were in a wrestling match. The two both body-slammed the poor pig and threw their bodies over it as it screamed mercifully.

Going to seek revenge for the groin pains of her dad the young daughter of Mr Leonard entered the swimming competition to take on a woman and about five men. However she was not allowed to swim with the men but did challenge the woman whom she whipped by a long distance.

Other activities of the day included kayaking; peddle boat racing, hot dog eating competition, May-Pole plaiting and dancing by the Junior Heritage Dancers among others.

In addition to the organizers who were present to assist and participate in the events was At Large Representative Honourable Archibald C. Christian who was among those doing the plaiting of the May-Pole.
