“Colour Me Pink” blazes RT runway [Photoslide Included]

The models at the Colour Me Pink fashion show displaying how the colour pink can be worn and complemented. It was one of the events for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Last evening, Friday October 28, 2011 the capital of Road Town sprung to live with the colour pink dominating a catwalk set up in front of UMI’s fashion, in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The fashion show, which was a collaboration of UMI’s Fashion and the BVI Cancer Society, saw a high degree of pink in almost every outfit displayed by models and outfits showing how the colour can also be complemented with others.

Many gathered along the streets to take in a glimpse of the hotly dressed models, who boldly had matching hair colours.

The event was also used to share information about breast cancer where questions were asked about breast cancer and prizes were awarded.

According to Deborah O'Neal of UMI Fashions, UMI is not just a company, but they are on a mission to make life better.

"We believe in fulfilling our purpose and our purpose is to make things better in the world and for us Breast Cancer Awareness is very serious and its very important the people know about it. We always think of ways to show the importance of contributing to the community and it was a cause that we wanted to support for a long time," she told Virgin Islands News Online.

Mandisa Frett, Secretary of the BVI Cancer Society, also stated that the month of activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been a great success, with the community embracing the society more this year and a greater partnership with smaller groups to put on the full month of activities.

Among the activities for the month were ZUMBA classes held in collaboration with Sensus Health Club every Monday at the Festival Ground, the Colour Me Pink Fashion Show, breast cancer screenings, one held on Friday and another two weeks ago at Social Security where a number of 70 persons were screened.

“Participation has been overwhelming. We are very grateful to the public for coming out and supporting us and we will continue to ask them to do so, not just for breast cancer awareness month but for all cancers, all year, and if they have any questions or anything they wish to know, they can call us at 499-0022 or they can stop by at the office at Lower Main Street opposite Dancia Penn and Co,” Ms. Frett said.

Meanwhile, the events continue this weekend with a Run/Walk slated for Sunday October 30, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. starting from the Noel Lloyd Park, and the final ZUMBA Monday class at 5:30 p.m. on Monday October 31 at the Festival Ground to wrap up the month of activities.
