ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has said the terms of reference of the Commission of Inquiry as announced by previous Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert is not specific as required by the Commissions of Inquiry Act but is rather a witch hunt.

“Everyone has a voice… from the time I've been in politics persons have been going to the Governor complaining about different things, that's their democratic right,” Premier Fahie said during an episode of talk show ZoeJ Say’s on Saturday, January 23, 2021.

He continued, “But there are systems such as the Public Accounts Committee, the Auditor General, the Internal Audit, the Police and many other systems that must be allowed to function before you can wake up a morning, with the stroke of a pen, put us into Commissioner of Inquiry with terms of reference that are so broad that I could fit in them, and that the act says that that the terms of reference have to be specific,” Hon Fahie noted.

Calling the CoI a witch hunt, the Premier said that the UK through Governor Augustus J.U. Jaspert has made the inquiry extremely broad with the aim to simply 'find something'.

“The question is, how is this democracy in the 24th century with due respect?” the Premier asked.

Respect given so respect must be received - Premier Fahie

“England has always been known to be our mother country in which we respect and we need to respect them, but we need respect also, and for you to tell me that you have all your issues in the UK, you have all your corruption issues the UK, also good issues and bad, and you can manage them.”

“But we are so bad down here that you have to come down and ignore our justice system, ignore our constitutional rights, ignore our constitutional bodies that have been put in place to handle gossip and allegations of this nature, instead you have to come and deal with it for us,” he said.

False love

The Premier said the Governor’s announcement has reputational damage in the name of false love.

“This reputational damage that we have to make sure that we go and deal with,” Premier Fahie said in noting that the damage is an attack on local agencies and it tries to implicate his 23-month-old government in past scandals under the National Democratic Party Government.

The people of the BVI must stand by their leader elected to make the hard calls.

It will get better, in the mean time support the premier and help your neighbor!

Everyone wanted more stimulus but it was not enough! Perhaps other concessions can be made to help the hardest hit, and most vulnerable.

We cannot abandon our leader because foreign powers at work in order to divide and conquer.

3 new deadly strains of COVID-19 is spreading with the potential to restrict global economic activity for the next 7 years.

It’s only been 1 year now, therefore we must stick together, and not fall for the distractions planted.

Please investigate the corruption and cronyism in the Governor’s office Premier.

It is clear they renew each others contracts there. And don’t advertise them. None of us black folk get any opportunity to apply for positions there, why?

Hon Premier: Have you submitted the relevant documents to the Registrar of Interests, each of the years that you have been elected & have you current colleagues in the HoA done the same?
If so, then there NO need to worry about a thing!!

Premier, the C.O.I is not there to investigate your democratically elected Government from 25th February, 2019.

The C.O.I is here to investigate from when DP was in office, may be for the past 8 YEARS.

But you appeared to be more concerned than the NDP.

The wall,Pier Park and Plane, were under the NDP.

    Let the C.O.I go ahead.

You cannot stop it,but you talking about it?Country close?Premier go and do your work.Do you still want the CANNABIS BILL PASS INTO LAW?Well, talk about that,as you are going to FIGHT Jaspert.

Jaspert has left now,who are you going to fight? TOP-RANKING?

Just to make you realise that UK is the SUPER POWER OF THE BVI,AND YOU ARE NOT!!!!!AND WHILE WE REMAIN A B.O.T. UK WILL BE IN CONTROL.

So while all of this is going on and business suffers... in the back ground Government has authorized the massive increases in costs from the statuary bodies.
With less than 30 days to go the BVI Port Authority has issued hidden charges that will trickle down to every good imported to the BVI and be paid by every person shopping in the BVI.
The minimum increase is 100%, wharfage has been increased from 1% to 2%, the estimated increase on a 20ft container of goods not including wharfage will be from $150 to over $400... you the people of the BVI during these hard times will pay for these costs..... what does all these cost increases mean... new Port.... better service... new warehousing.... you have to be kidding!
Also see massive increase, massive in the cost to renew your Trade License..... the Government is quietly behind your backs raising every conceivable cost to business.... they will continue to run the BVI back into the swamp. Sorry but they must go....

I agree, too many unnecessary High paying staff, I wonder if these people in big position in the government ever consider taking half salaries until things get better,, instead of finding ways to take everything from people to accommodate their hugo salaries, and They are not performing, I am hearing they want to push the dock opening back if they do that , killing that well needed revenue stream then they should second be put on half monthly salaries,,,

Find away to work with Covid,,, You have to,,,,So, stay focus ,,
